Canberra and Penrith will host home games in Las Vegas next season as the NRL prepares to end months of lobbying by confirming the four clubs to kick off the 2025 premiership in America.
The Raiders and Panthers will play the Warriors and Sharks in the second instalment of Round Zero, the four clubs, as revealed by this masthead, to be confirmed as early as Wednesday after going through an exhaustive process that began months ago.
The Panthers were always keen to help launch the season in Las Vegas in 2025 given their home ground will undergo a $300 million rebuild at the end of the season, forcing them to play out of CommBank Stadium for 12 months.
The Raiders were a logical fit given the Las Vegas Raiders are based at Allegiant Stadium, the $1 billion home of the double-header.
The Sharks and Warriors have secured the final two spots after Melbourne dropped out of the race last week, leaving only four clubs in the mix to be part of the American extravaganza.
It is understood the NRL hopes to make an announcement this week as they give fans time to make plans for the trip to Sin City next year.
This year’s season opener was a raging success with fans flocking to Las Vegas to watch the first year of the American extravaganza, which is locked in for the next five years.
The NRL believe they can make inroads in the American market, both in terms of broadcast numbers and the potential player pool. The Sydney Roosters recently announced plans to launch an academy on the west coast of America as they look to tap into the US market.
