Talk that the South Sydney Rabbitohs board will make Wayne Bennett pay the club’s $20,000 fine to the NRL for failing to inform the integrity unit — or anyone at the club — of Cody Walker ’s Kung fu kick in a street fight during the off-season in Casino. Bennett earns almost $20,000 a week. We think he can afford it.

The disappearance of referees’ union boss Silvio Del Vecchio after two weeks of lapping up all the media exposure. If we don’t see Silvio’s melon on TV ever again, it will be a wonderful day for rugby league.

Jeff Fenech had a fall at home on Saturday and had to be taken to hospital in an ambulance. “The pain was 15 out of 10,” said Australia’s great ever boxer. Fortunately there were no breaks. “Just massive bruising from all the blood thinners I now take,” he said.

Olsen Filipaina ’s claims that he was paid $35,000 in cash in a brown paper bag to play at the Roosters in 1986 was a shock considering their Leagues Club in those days struggled big time. There are suggestions a very wealthy TV tycoon, who loved the Roosters, may have had a win on the punt and come up with the cash. No prizes for guessing who.
