DARWIN Brothers dug deep and raised around $10,000 in charity in a series of fierce home round encounters against Northern Sharks.
In the earlier senior game it was the Darwin Brothers women who came out on top, keeping their unbeaten streak alive with a 48-0 win over their foes.
But top of the table Sharks turned the tables in the A-Grade men’s game winning 26-6 after a late flurry of tries.
Darwin Brothers dedicated the round to the Humpty Dumpty Foundation, a cause very close to the club after the organisation played a key role in saving the life of one of their own.
Moses Wigness Jr was born with a life-threatening congenital heart defect, which required urgent surgery.
It was a transport incubator, donated by the foundation, that saved his life and the Brothers dedicated their round and jerseys to the cause.
Darwin Brothers president John Adams praised the rugby community for getting behind the day with an estimated $10,000 raised for the foundation.
“The support from our members and the wider rugby community was absolutely fabulous,” Adams said.
“Everyone got behind one of our life members (Moses Wigness Sr) and his family who are absolutely great people who will do anything for anyone.
“Seeing this young fella running around brings a tear to the eye, he’s Brothers through and through, and the players all got behind him.”
