Reece Walsh or Kalyn Ponga? Ezra Mam or Cameron Munster? Shaun Johnson or Adam Reynolds? Patrick Carrigan or Tohu Harris? Who should be in the 2023 Dally M Team of the Year?
In a season of stunning shocks, Paul Crawley delivers his verdict leading into the final round of the regular season, with only one member from last year’s official team retaining his place in our 2023 line-up.
Check out Paul’s picks and have your say on who should make the team.
FULLBACK
2022 Dally M fullback: James Tedesco
Paul’s pick for 2023: Reece Walsh – We had to go to the developed print in a nailbiting finish. But the Broncos superstar gets home by a nose on the back of his form throughout the entire season to narrowly edge out the fast finishing Kalyn Ponga, with Dylan Edwards a courageous third.

WINGERS
2022 Dally M wingers: Joseph Suaalii, Alex Johnston
Paul’s picks for 2023: Dallin Watene-Zelezniak, Jamayne Isaako – Hard to argue with the Warriors wrecking ball while Isaako’s effort to lead the comp in tries and pointscoring is the first time that’s been done since Mal Meninga in 1990. Honourable mentions to Selwyn Cobbo, Dominic Young, Murray Taulagi and Brian To’o.

CENTRES
2022 Dally M centres: Joseph Manu, Valentine Holmes
Paul’s picks for 2023: Stephen Crichton, Bradman Best – The Panthers’ Mr Dependable is a must while Best has been a revelation since his shock Origin call up to get the nod ahead of the Broncos’ super consistent Herbie Farnworth.
Your say:
FIVE-EIGHTH
2022 Dally M five-eighth: Cameron Munster
Paul’s picks for 2023: Ezra Mam – The Broncos’ speed machine on a cut price salary of about $320,000 has been the standout in a crack field of five-eighths. Tom Dearden has also had another terrific season despite the Cowboys’ struggles.
Your say:
HALFBACK
2022 Dally M halfback: Nicho Hynes
Paul’s picks for 2023: Shaun Johnson - The most improved player in the competition and a deserving favourite to take out the game’s most prestigious individual prize. Special mentions to Jahrome Hughes, Adam Reynolds, Nathan Cleary and Daly Cherry-Evans.
Your say:
PROPS
2022 Dally M props: Payne Haas, Joseph Tapine
Paul’s picks for 2023: Payne Haas, Addin Fonua-Blake - It’s impossible to go past these two although fans of Lindsay Collins, James Fisher-Harris and Tino Fa’asuamaleaui could argue that point.
Your say:
HOOKER
2022 Dally M hooker: Api Koroisau
Paul’s picks for 2023: Wayde Egan – The unsung hero in the Warriors’ charge to a top four finish gets this vote ahead of Harry Grant, while Api Koroisau has been tremendous despite the Tigers finishing with the wooden spoon.
Your say:
SECOND-ROWERS
2022 Dally M second-rowers: Viliame Kikau, Jeremiah Nanai
Paul’s picks for 2023: Liam Martin, Tyson Frizell – Martin should be the first backrower picked the Australian Test team while Frizell’s finish to the season edges out David Fifita.
Your say:
LOCK
2022 Dally M lock: Isaah Yeo
Paul’s picks for 2023: Pat Carrigan – This is no knock on Isaah Yeo, Cam Murray or Nelson Asofa-Solomona, but even their most passionate supporters would find it hard to argue against Carrigan and Tohu Harris being the standout locks this season. We’ve gone Carrigan in a split decision.
