The match coverage crossed to the injured Mahoney, who was asked, “How are you seeing the opening stages here?”

The Eels hooker, who appeared to be unaware he was on camera, bluntly responded, “F***”.

Parramatta survived a late scare at Browne Park to book their spot in the semi-finals, holding on for a 28-20 victory.

Newcastle winger Enari Tuala scored a hat-trick in Sunday’s must-win clash, but his standout solo performance was in vain.

After mounting a second half comeback to make the score 22-20, the Knights threatened to steal the game at the death.

But the Eels put the result beyond doubt in the 77th minute when Will Penisini was awarded a penalty try after he was tackled off the ball by Enari Tuala.

Parramatta halfback Mitchell Moses produced an oustanding individual performance to lead his side to history.

The star playmaker scored a sensational breakaway try and orchestrated the Eels’ attack around the park for the whole game.

The Eels will next face the Penrith Panthers, with the winner progressing through to the preliminary finals.
