Buy, Hold, Sell: Haumole, Hopoate and Koloamatangi headline the key moves for round 14

Could a Manly magician, monster middles and a certain Bronco hold the key to unlocking round 14 riches? Check out Buy, Hold, Sell here.

Could a Manly magician, monster middles and a certain E. Mam hold the key to unlocking round 14 riches?

With 11 tons and six more in the 90s, it was a week of bumper individual scores where either holding start-of-season cheapies or getting the timing right on a low-price buy rewarded SuperCoach players.

But we shift gears to round 14, cast an eye ahead to the second major bye round, and consider looking to the Northern Beaches for some guns to get us through a tough period.

QUICK LINKS: BYE BIBLE | BYE PLANNER

BUY

Lehi Hopoate – Of course, you have to keep an eye on Tom Trbojevic’s fitness and selection, but the kid can play. He put up his second straight ton, and you’re going to buy high, but will face two of the three worst teams in the league over the next two weeks.

Hamole Olakau’atu – Hit his breakeven so he’ll be just north of $600k to bring him in, but with games against the Knights and Titans over the next fortnight, he’s worth a look for the engine room.

Ezra Mam – Decent two first games of the season. He’s worth $494,600, but is heading into a clash with the Titans the Broncos simply can’t afford to lose. The round 15 bye is a bit of spanner, but if you’re after the cash for a player with a fairly high ceiling, his price will go up.

Keaon Koloamatangi – It’s going to cost a fair bit more than it would’ve a few weeks ago, but the man is a machine in the middle. Tough match-ups with the Raiders, Bulldogs and Storm in the next three weeks but expect he’ll be bust.

Kai Pearce-Paul – Often punches out 50-plus scores and is among the most consistent Knights in the struggling side. Has a decent schedule coming up, with their next bye in round 18. One to consider.

Kurt Donoghoe - The Dolphins Mr Fix-It is worth a look pending Kristian Woolf’s lineup, but the hooker is priced at $355,300, has a negative breakeven, and is no Origin risk so will play the next few weeks.

WATCH

Luke Brooks – Hear me out. Not every opponent is a Broncos at Brookie in May, but he’s got a fairly decent draw coming up with the Knights, Titans, round 16 bye then the Tigers and Bunnies on the schedule. He’s under $500k, and Manly have a point to prove.

Heath Mason – This bloke will print money if he’s picked to face the Panthers. A ton against the Cowboys ensures he’ll rake in some dollars after round 14, but his long-term prospects are dicey. If you’ve got the trades and need to cash a cow with a less than average schedule (Isaiah Iongi anyone?) it’s an option.

Latrell Mitchell - Mr rocks and diamonds himself. He is at a decent price to consider if he’s as active as he was against the Warriors. He scored a try, set up two others, and kicked five conversions. But there’s a clear downside, with Mitchell to play just three of the Rabbitohs’ next six games. Does the reward outweigh the risk?

Jack Williams – The man is on a tear at the Eels. Dual position status helps, with a price tag around $550k when lockout ends. He gets through a ton of defensive work, and doesn’t look like slowing down any time soon – except for the poor schedule.

HOLD

Fletcher Sharpe and Dylan Lucas – The lads landing either side of 50 just a week after big tons is unfortunate for owners, but this duo has a decent chance to bounce back next week. They both have high ceilings, and with Kalyn Ponga on Origin duty, Sharpe in particular should bounce back.

Cam Munster and Jahrome Hughes – Bit of a let-down after consecutive tons (for Munster) but there’s a reason this duo carries a premium price tag. Both should bounce back at home against the Cowboys, but could be crucial for the run home.

SELL

Mitch Barnett – suffered a potentially serious knee injury and won’t play the next few weeks, at least. Sell.

Corey Horsburgh – If you stayed faithful to Big Red, he repaid you be leaking more cash, and he doesn’t play round 15. Time to go, Horse.

Robert Derby – The honeymoon period is over after a few decent scores. He could be a valuable number in round 15 for anyone who held him this long, but he won’t make any more cash.
