It was just her first season playing Women’s League but that didn’t stop Nightcliff’s Rhiannon Fecht from showing her talents and winning the prestigious Gaynor Maggs Medal.
Fecht made a strong impression from the start of the season but only improved with each passing week as her confidence in her grew.
And that growth in confidence and skill was mirrored by her Nightcliff side who also improved each week with their season ending in a tight semi-final against Palmerston.
“Without everyone involved at Nightcliff I wouldn’t have had a chance to win this award in my first year,” Fecht said.
“We had a pretty rough season. There were a few losses along the way but we came back and almost took out our semi-final. It’s been a good in all.”
Coach Chris Brown was full of praise for his star.
“It’s amazing. She won it off full effort, this is her first year of playing rugby league. She turns up to training every week and always gives 100 percent,” Brown said.
“She’s a naturally gifted athlete who is good at everything she does. She’s fit, she loves it and is only going to get better.”
