The 2024 edition of the Darwin Supercars has been amped up with the return of one of the most heart-thumping events on the Australian motorsports program.

Nitro Up North and all the heart-thumping action that comes with it returns to the Hidden Valley Raceway for the 2024 edition of the Betr Darwin Triple Crown Supercars Indigenous Round.

More than 90 nitro-fuelled machines, including two Top Fuel rigs, will put the pedal to the metal and race down the drag strip at Hidden Valley.

These are the quickest accelerating racing cars in the world, and the fastest category of drag racing with 11,000 horsepower behind them, and Darwin is the only Supercars round to see them.

The Top Fuel showdown will see two of the best in the game go head to head with two-time champion Phil Lamattina up against up-and-coming superstar Kyle Putland.

Then there’s the NITRO MAX category that will see four cars race twice each night, while the Sportsman Heavy Hitters will feature around 80 local cars racing down the dragstrip.

The evening includes commentary from drags experts, big screens, and a pyrotechnical display to make the crowds feel even closer to the action.

Hidden Valley Drag Strip president Matt Abel said it was great to see the hugely popular Nitro Up North make a return.

“It’s great to see Nitro Up North return to bring fans two nights of high-speed entertainment including the not to be-missed showdown between two Top Fuel dragsters,” he said.

“Darwin Triple Crown enthusiasts enjoy the thrills and excitement and it’s an opportunity for local dragracers to show off their skills in front of a packed crowd.”

The Darwin Triple Crown takes place from June 14-16, with the nitro events hitting the track on the first two nights.

The three-day event will include plenty of on-track action through the day including the Supercars, SuperUtes, Touring Car Masters, Porsche Carrera Cup and Combined Sedans.

Hardwired Entertainment will be there to display tricks and skills on motorcycles, while The Valley Rodeo makes a first appearance and provides the ultimate pit stop for those seeking fun hospitality.

Major Events Minister Brent Potter said the Darwin Supercars was always a huge event and the expanded program would only make it more appealing.

“The Betr Darwin Triple Crown Supercars Indigenous Round is a huge event and the Nitro Up North program will keep the entertainment going well into the evening,” he said.

“The Top Fuel showdown will provide a great opportunity for drags fans to see the fastest cars in the world right here in Darwin.

“It’s also a fantastic opportunity for local dragsters to race in front of a packed crowd, including friends and family.”

The event is free for children 13 and below with an accompanying adult, otherwise tickets are $125 for a three day hot pass.
