ASHANTI Bush proved distance is no barrier with her best on ground performance in the Arnhem Crows’ first women’s Big Rivers Football League premiership last night.
A near best on ground performance in the All-Stars game on Friday night was followed by four quarters of excellence for her home side 24 hours later.
“It was a big thrill for us in front of our families and to win a grand final at our first go is even better,’’ the 18-year-old told the NT News.
“It was a big surprise being named the best player, we all did something for the win and that was important.’’
Bush, the niece of former Waratah premiership player Braun Bush, will wear the double blue of the Darwin Buffaloes in the 2020-21 NTFL season.
It was a similar story in the men’s grand final when a cheeky forward pocked kicked six goals for Katherine Souths in their upset grand final win over Katherine Camels.
Morris medallist Jeffrey McDonald was every inch the goalsneak in his side’s 35-point win, booting three goals in a decisive first quarter, one in the third and another two in the last term.
Asked after the match if six goals were enough on the biggest day of the BRFL season, McDonald showed his trademark grin in replying to the affirmative.
“I told the coach I would kick five before the match and as it was I kicked six and just played my role, I’m pretty happy with that,’’ McDonald said.
“I did what coach Mal told me to do and I just got my goals from that, it was pretty straight forward really.’’
