Territorian Ashanti Bush to make AFLW debut for the Gold Coast Suns

A dream has come true for former Darwin Buffettes star Ashanti Bush who is set to make her AFLW debut for the Gold Coast Suns against the West Coast Eagles.

A DREAM has come true for former Darwin Buffettes star Ashanti Bush who is set to make her AFLW debut for the Gold Coast Suns against the West Coast Eagles.

Bush was selected as pick number eight in the 2021 AFLW debut Draft with her speed and game sense catching the eyes of coaches.

It capped off a stellar couple of years for the young Territorian who was named best on ground in the Arnhem Crows’ premiership, featured with the Allies and played with the Hawthorn VFLW squad.

She also played a massive role in the Buffettes run to the final in the 2020-21 NTFL women’s final.

But now her eyes are set firmly on her next career milestone, a debut for the Suns in the AFLW where she can display her skill on the main stage.

“I’m really excited to play my first AFLW game,” Bush said

“My game has improved a lot since I came to the Suns and I am excited to show everyone what I can do.

“I would like to thank my family and the players and coaches at the Suns for giving me the opportunity to play and I hope I can do them proud.”

Suns AFLW coach Cameron Joyce said the side were really keen to give Bush a run in the side after being impressed with her preformances in training.

“We were really keen to give Ashanti an opportunity and it’s great that she’ll get that chance to play for the Suns in Round 2,” Joyce said.

“We’ve loved what she’s been able to bring to the team over the last few months and are really excited to see her bring those weapons onto the field.

“Ashanti and her family should be extremely proud of everything she’s achieved so far and everything more to come.”
