A DREAM which has been 25 years in the making became a reality on Monday, when multiple boxing world champion Anthony Mundine arrived in Darwin.

He was greeted by his great mate – Darwin basketball coach and youth mentor, Timmy Duggan.

The two will visit various sites in the Territory under their Mindset of a Champion tour, with the hope they can get financial backing to tour around Australia.

Duggan believes having a household name like Mundine with him – as they promote positive thinking techniques – will change and even save lives, further putting the Territory on the map nationally.

“We call each other brothers,” Duggan said.

“I was in Sydney on a basketball scholarship in 1992, and at the time Choc was one of the best players in New South Wales.

“He was just 15 or 16 years old, and came up to introduce himself to my mum and dad.

“We saw how genuine he was even back then. We drove up to Darwin in 1995 and spoke about what we wanted to do after our careers finished, and we both wanted to help people.”

Mundine and Duggan spoke at the Office of Township Leasing yesterday, and will speak at the Mission Australian Rehabilitation and Treatment program today – both in Darwin.

Despite the controversy which has accompanied the outspoken Mundine throughout his respective rugby league and boxing careers, he said people can now see his genuine and caring nature through this tour.

“This is the real me. People get caught up with the way I get portrayed, but talk to me one-on-one and it’s a whole different dimension,” Mundine – a strong advocate for living a drug and alcohol-free lifestyle – told the NT News.

“My messages will be about staying resilient and the law of attraction. There’s no better high than the natural high you get out of life when you’re happy.

“We’re starting here in the Territory, and the Territory can be the pioneer of something special.”
