World Champion Josh Jolly holds training sessions with NT riders ahead of Championships

World number one junior elite men’s rider Josh Jolly imparted some knowledge on budding Territory riders this week ahead of the annual championships.
The current world champion and Australian national champion was ripping it up at Palmerston’s Satellite City BMX Club, giving some final pointers to those in attendance ahead of the big meet.
Born in Ballarat, the 18 year old has been racing bikes since he was two and hasn’t been off the pedals since.
Jolly made a name for himself after winning his maiden national crown at just nine, and has already racked up 10 gold medals at national champs since then.
With too many titles to count, the young gun has his sights firmly set on representing the nation at the LA and Brisbane Games.
Still in the infancy of his professional career, Jolly is already on track to become Australia’s next BMX star.
Determined to earn his place on the mantle alongside the likes of Saya Sakakibara and Sam Willoughby, the rider was recently named an Australian Hall of Fame Sport Scholar for 2025, a huge showing of support that will aid his journey.
Despite his age, the teenager has already begun imparting his tricks of the trade on the next generation.
Lured up north by the Youth Vibe Grant as part of school holiday clinics, the world champion held sessions with his coach on Tuesday and Thursday, and will race alongside Territory talent at the championships this Saturday for the 6pm race.
Jolly will be one of the 259 entrants at this year’s AusCycling BMX Racing Northern Territory Championships, putting on a show for everyone in attendance at the Jingili BMX Club track.
Riders will compete across six events: Mini Wheeler, Sprocket, Challenge (20”/Cruiser) and Para, Masters, Junior Superclass and Superclass.
MEET SOME OF THE RIDERS TO WATCH AT THE CHAMPS
Angus Roberts
Currently 1NT for 15 boys, Roberts is out to retain his championship podium this weekend. He is also set to compete in the Superclass event.
Hayden Smith
2NT for 10 boys, Smith finished the NT series first in his age class and second in Cruiser Class. He too is headed off to Perth in two weeks time for nationals.
Jarrod Scott
Scott wrapped up the 2024 NT series in first position in his age class and third in Junior Superclass (men).
Taylah Buganey
An emerging talent, Buganey has had a season to remember, wrapping up the 2024 NT series in first position in both her age class and Junior Superclass (women). She’s also off to Perth to race at the BMX nationals in two weeks time.
Angus Luff
Sitting second for 14 boys Luff is also set to race in the Junior Superclass field this weekend.
Jamie Hargreaves
Racing in two classes, Hargreaves finished the NT series in first for Masters (men) and will be racing at the titles this Saturday.
Leonardo Prandi
Currently 1NT for 13 boys, the junior is also looking to retain his championship podium this weekend. Prandi will race in the Junior Superclass this meet and is off to Perth to race at the BMX nationals in a fortnight.
