Is this a contender for try of the year?
Round 14 of the Darwin Rugby competition produced a moment of brilliance when two talented youngsters teamed up to score a 98m stunner.
South Darwin Rugby Club’s winger Setefano ‘Dan’ Lemuel Cakaunivalu – son of Fijian international Setefano Cakaunivalu – linked up with his scrum half Shunsei Okazaki as they pulled off a length of the field try.
Playing the Darwin Dragons, Cakaunivalu chased down a 45m box kick, picking up the gilbert metres out from his own tryline.
The teenager then glanced over his left shoulder, stepped the chasing Dragon and legged it up the left tramline.
The winger then split the next two Dragons, before turning on the burning, trucking the ball up past halfway.
Under pressure having just woven through three more Dragons, he threw a pass over his left shoulder to the supporting Okazaki.
A charging Okasaki then ran 10m before chipping the ball over the head of the last defender before regathering the pill five metres out, and crashing over the paint.
The Rabbitohs went on to win the match in commanding fashion, downing the Dragons 65-7, in which Cakaunivalu bagged a hat-trick and Okazaki a brace.
