Mindil looking to extend unbeaten run with win in grand final rematch

Mindil FC have rocketed to the top of the MPL table with an undefeated start to the season, but their run will be threatened with reigning premiers Hellenic waiting to knock them over.

The Mindil Aces have pulled off an undefeated start from their seven games so far in the 2024 MPL season.

The Aces have been a cut above through the first third of the season with five wins and two draws, scoring an incredible 5.33 goals and conceding just 0.57 goals per game.

The yellow and black side sit atop the table on 17 points with a four point buffer to reigning premiers Hellenic.

“We’ve done a lot of things right up to this point,” Mindil forward James Cameron said.

“Our depth this season has been incredible and a huge reason why we’ve seen some early success.”

The likes of James Carr and Josh Evans returning to the club has had a major impact, and Cameron is adamant his squad has the ability to maintain their winning ways to the end of the season.

“From stability in net to our defence being on fire, as well as of midfield clicking and our forwards finding the back of the net, I believe we have the best group of players in the league,” he said.

However, the Aces know they need a trick up their sleeve to keep their run alive with their upcoming clash a grand final rematch against Hellenic FC.

“Hellenic games are always a huge deal for us,” Cameron said.

“It’s almost like a derby at this point and form goes out the window.”

The focus and weight of the premiership title is now amplified for both sides after their “disappointing” Australia Cup campaigns.

“We both got knocked out early and didn’t go well in the Cup,” Cameron said.

“And if that isn’t enough, our first match was a draw, so we want to finally get over the hump and beat them as this match will have title ramifications.”

The two proud clubs will clash this Saturday out at Marrara.
