Hellenic have clinched the season’s minor premiership title with a resounding 4-1 victory over Casuarina on the back of a brace from their goal scoring ace.
Matthew McNab added to his season tally of goals with two scores against the Rowdies, while also bagging himself two assists as he helped his side come back from a goal down.
And Hellenic’s spot at the top of the table, with two games still to play, was secured when the second-placed Mindil Aces suffered a surprise defeat to Darwin Hearts.
A clumsy handball from Yanni Stefanidakis inside the box gifted Casuarina a penalty in the 28th minute which Manoli Gialloris blasted into the bottom right past keeper Kane McAdam.
It was the early wake up the league leaders needed and they responded in a devastating manner taking just two minutes to find the equaliser.
McNab broke down the left wing and pulled the ball back through the box where it eventually found Stylianos Vrontos who converted a low-driven shot past a maze of defenders into the goal.
The outstanding McNab was involved again just minutes later, he managed to slip through the off-side trap and flick the ball into the net to make it 2-1.
And before the half was out he bagged himself another assist, this time coming down the right wing, as his deep cross found Robert Kilmartin who knocked it home for the side’s third.
McNab’s perfect day didn’t stop there crafting an exquisite solo goal as he took the ball from outside the box on the left, cut inside past a defender and nailed the ball into the top right for a goal.
Hellenic could have easily made it five with the numerous chances that followed in the second half, including a Kilmartin opportunity which struck the post in the 68th minute.
McNab’s performance means he now leads the charts for goals (18) and assists (16) in the premier league, consistently delivering when it matters most.
With the minor premiership wrapped up Hellenic have the opportunity to complete the treble with the NT Cup also in their bag for 2023.
