DESERT BLAZE PREVAIL OVER NORTHERN TIDE IN GAME THREE
STRONG batting partnerships saw Desert Blaze race to a 24-run win over Northern Tide in the T20 Strike League Tournament, the Blaze’s second win of the series.
Blaze showed their batting prowess in the middle order with Jackson Isakka (46 runs from 38 balls) contributing two 50-run partnerships with Dylan Brasher (29 runs) and then Tom Andrews (32 runs).
A further contribution from Coby Edmondstone (14 runs from six balls) had Blaze in a comfortable position at the close of their innings.
Northern Tide started slowly in comparison with Jayllen Naganayagam (14 runs), Jason Sangha (28 runs) and Ryan Hackney (18 runs) all getting starts but were unable to push on.
And the Blaze bowling unit capitalised with Hayden Kerr (three wickets), Andrews and Oscar Osborn-Corby (two wickets each) restricting runs throughout
Austin Umpherston looked good late for the Tide chipping in a crucial 23 runs from 14 balls but a late run out diminished any comeback for his side.
“We’re playing really well right now and we have a good bunch of guys together,” Kerr said.
“We had a couple of changes in the past couple of games but all the new guys came in and had a really good performance and we came away pretty easy.
“We’re just keeping it pretty simple so not much has changed from the 50-over series. The addition of the surge does change a couple of things but for the most part it’s pretty simple cricket.”
The 25-year-old on the Sydney Sixers roster is still tossing up his options on where he will head following the Strike League but has called his Darwin experience vital for his preparations.
“Being up here is preparing me really well for the BBL tournament,” Kerr said.
“There’s some great coaches and we’re playing plenty of T20. It’s just a great opportunity given what’s happening back home so it’s great to be up here playing some good cricket.
“I’m looking at my options at the moment. Going home is a potential option but at the moment I think I will end up going to the Gold Coast and hopefully one of the clubs there will have me.”
