Hockey is finally making a comeback in Alice Springs.

For the first time in 15 years, Hockey NT has rebuilt the town’s junior program.

In a collaborative effort with School Sport NT, an inter school competition day back in May saw more than 100 schoolchildren pick up a stick at Traeger Park Hockey Turf.

Alice Springs is a truly unique place, and witnessing over 100 kids come down to play hockey and absolutely thrive was incredibly meaningful,” Hookin2Hockey ambassador and Stingers player Elle Richardson said.

“This is what our sport and future is all about our kids.”

The success of the event has generated a renewed interest in the town with the launch of Hookin2Hockey, a junior development program, being implemented for six to 12 year olds, and will take place at 10.30am Sunday mornings, commencing July 21.

The program intends to both introduce and develop the hockey abilities in remote and undeserved communities, and will be free for all participants due to generous sponsorship from AutoSparky.

Additionally, Hockey NT recently announced they have partnered with the Australian Olympic Committee and Hockey Australia for a two-week program to take place in October of this year.
