Former Collingwood great Dane Swan has confirmed he will make an appearance for NTFL club Waratah in the 2025-26 season, after narrowly missing out four years ago.

The 2011 Brownlow Medal winner has long talked about heading to Darwin and was initially supposed to in the 2021-22 season.

However, a self-inflicted hand injury while on a night out in Sydney the week before he was supposed to head north put the lid on those ambitions.

The five time All Australian has played across the country since his playing his last AFL game in 2016 and continues to bring appeal with his skills.

The Tahs have secured the services of the man who played 285 games at the top level once again with his new NTFL debut set to be against Palmerston at Gardens Oval.

Waratah president Rohan Langworthy said it was great to have Swan on-board for the club’s family day giving plenty of fans the opportunity to come down.

“We’re absolutely thrilled to have Brownlow Medallist and AFL Hall of Fame inductee Dane Swan pull on the Waratah jumper,” he said.

“He’s one of the modern greats of the game and his presence will bring an incredible buzz to Gardens Oval.

“The timing couldn’t be better with our Family Day, there’ll be free jumping castles, face painting and activities for the kids, plus the chance for fans to have a schooner with Swanny after the game.

“We’d love to see the whole community come down, enjoy the day, and be part of what promises to be a memorable occasion at the best place to watch local footy.”

He becomes the latest in big signing news across the competition as NTFL clubs exert their ability to sign interstate talent since the fly-in rule was abandoned.

Southern Districts recently confirmed Quinton Narkle, while Willie Rioli remains a hot topic on which club he could head to.
