Darwin Hearts FC have pulled off their biggest win in the club’s history, securing a finals appearance in the nation’s largest tournament.
Defeating FNT powerhouse Darwin Olympic 3-1 in the grand final, the team blitzed the competition, winning their first game 3-0, their second 2-0, and the semi-final 4-2.
The smallest and newest club in the FNT Norzone league, Hearts’ top men’s side along with Blacktown City FC became the first non-A-league sides in the nation to qualify for the prestigious tournament, from a total of 761 entrants.
Hearts will be the only club representing the Territory and are waiting with bated breath to see who their opponent will be.
“It’s the first major trophy in our premier grade, and the biggest accomplishment our club’s history,” the club’s vice-president Fusang Sherpa said.
“It’s a massive win, and we’ve been working hard from day one of this season
“This victory is the reflection of all the efforts by volunteers’ club members, well wishers, and the players.”
Cheered on by their loyal supporters in the grandstand and with the belief that they had the side to win, Hearts are eager to continue their fairytale run as long as possible.
“Following a loss in the regular season to Olympic, we analysed a few of their games and came up with a plan to defeat them,” Sherpa said.
“We’re more than excited to learn who our opponent will be.
“This will be good exposure and experience for a team like us, and we’ll represent the NT the best we can to make all of the FNT members proud.”
