TALENTED youth helped Ansett score their revenge over Tracy Village Jets in a hard-fought 96-90 win in Round 13 of the Darwin Basketball Championship.
Last time the two sides faced off it was the Jets who walked away the victors, Ned Stevens and Jerron Jamerson standing out.
But it was Ansett’s turn to get the win in their second meeting of the season.
Down a couple of players, the second-ranked Ansett looked to their younger talent to see out a win against the league’s top side.
Joel De Barros (28 points), Freddy Webb, James Toohey and Anthony Rowse stepped up to help their side through the tough encounter against a difficult Jets outfit.
Jamerson, aided by his young Jets contingent, fought hard to reclaim the lead coming close in the final quarter.
But Ansett held on, winning free throws at the death to secure their lead and keep the heavy guns of Tracy Village at bay.
“It’s nice to get them back after losing to them last time around and though we understand they were a little undermanned today we will take the win,” Webb told the NT News.
“Our heart really showed and I think that’s what got us over the line. Our juniors really stepped up and our work on the defensive end really helped see us through.
“The message was let’s go out and play our game. Jets are a great side with great players but for us we just have to play our game and if we manage to execute that we can win any game.
“Every win is important particularly now we’re coming down the final stretch and so we will take any win that comes our way.”
