Tiwi's Scott Bedford charged with stomping in NTFL

Tiwi Bombers player Scott Bedford has been directed straight to the tribunal after being charged with stomping on an opponent in Round 15 of the 2024-25 NTFL season.

Bedford and his opponent, Palmerston’s Deacon Summerville, both fell in a contest about eight minutes into the fourth quarter at Cazalys Arena.

The Tiwi player regained his footing first and walked over to Summerville where he’s alleged to have stomped on his lower leg, resulting in the Magpie limping as he rose to his feet.

As a result of the incident Bedford was charged with stomping and directed straight to the tribunal with no indication of possible ban length, if any.

Bedford played a pivotal role in his side’s dominant victory over Palmerston as the Bombers surged into second on the ladder.

Meanwhile, Jessica Lloyd of Wanderers was charged with insulting and threatening an umpire during her side’s loss to Waratah in the Foundation Cup at Gardens Oval.

The women’s premier league player will miss the remainder of the season after being lumped with a six week ban for the incident.

Lloyd can accept a five week ban instead if she makes an early guilty plea.

She wasn’t the only one found to have insulted an umpire, with Kayne Cox of Wanderers’ men’s side likely to miss next round after being charged with insulting an umpire in the match against Waratah.

The third quarter incident was found to be at low volume resulting in a two match ban, down to one if he makes an early plea.

Darwin Buffaloes veteran Matt Campbell was also charged with insulting an umpire during the fourth quarter of his match against St Mary’s.

Campbell has chosen to contest the charge, which could result in a two week ban, at the tribunal.

Fellow Muk Muk Simon Bates was charged with striking Waratah’s Maxwell Kelly during the fourth quarter of the Foundation Cup match.

His offence was found to be intentional conduct with low impact and high contact resulting in a two week ban, down to one with an early guilty plea.

Nightcliff’s Zackary Derksen is another big name who may miss the run to finals after being charged with engaging in rough conduct against Districts defender Connor Giddings.

The third quarter incident was cited as intentional conduct with medium impact and high contact, resulting in a three week ban, down to two with an early guilty plea.
