SOUTHERN Districts are grooming PINT paceman Pat Gallow to fill their void in the ruckman position.

Gallow currently plays for the Crocodiles’ Division 1 side and is making an impression despite his relative newness to the sport.

Districts coach Shannon Rusca was impressed with Gallow’s talent and hopes he can find his way into the Premier League match-day side at some point soon.

“He’s going well in training and obviously earning his sport in the squad,” Rusca told the NT News.

“He’s raw to football but he’s learning his trade quickly and taking to it well.”

Districts have lacked an out-and-out ruckman for some time and the introduction of Gallow’s large frame will be appreciated by the side.

Gallow also plays first grade cricket as a highly accomplished pace bowler for PINT, also representing the NT Strike side.

The different seasons allow him to play cricket for half of the year and in the NTFL for the other half.

“I can definitely see him playing in the ruck position for a long time,” Rusca said.

“Hopefully Gallow gets his chance soon, he’s a really good young star that we can really make use of.”

Districts are currently preparing for their evening encounter against a young Wanderers side on Saturday.

Districts bounced back from their loss against a resurgent Bombers with a 14.18 (102) to 6.7 (43) win over Palmerston.

However, Wanderers will be looking to claw their way back into the top half of the table after consecutive losses to Buffaloes and Nightcliff.

“We have to work out how to mitigate their running game and play our own way,” Rusca said.

“They’re very quick and will look to come out strong but if we can mitigate that we will be in a good place.”
