WARATAH could receive a massive boost, with Geelong Falcons TAC Cup representative Joshua Carlin indicating his keenness to play for the Warriors in the 2020-21 NTFL season.

The 24-year-old forward has been a revelation for Katherine Camels in the Big Rivers Football League this year, booting 23 goals so far, including four in his first-placed team’s 18.11 (119) to 13.5 (83) win over Ngukurr Bulldogs on Saturday night.

Carlin – who has played in both the Geelong and District Football League and Hampden Football Netball League (both in Victoria) was one of the Camels’ best on ground in the impressive victory.

“I’m thinking about it. I haven’t made my mind up yet,” he told the NT News after being asked whether he would play in the upcoming NTFL season, with Waratah to host Palmerston in the competition opener on October 2.

“There are a few boys here (at the Camels) who play for Waratah (Brodie Carroll and Nick Gooch, while star forward Aaron Moules has played one Premier League game for the Warriors), so it might be on the cards this season.

“I’ll wait and see. I got a couple of phone calls last year and wasn’t too interested. But this season I might have a crack.”

Carlin has enjoyed his time with defending BRFL premiers the Camels.

“I came up mid-last year from south-west Victoria with my partner,” he said.

“I played for the Camels last year and was lucky to get a win in the grand final.

“This year it’s been a full season and I’ve loved every minute of it.

“I’ve got friends up here. It’s something different and I’m glad I made the move.”

After last year’s premiership triumph, Carlin believes there is a similar winning feeling at the Camels in 2020.

“There’s a real drive and everyone is passionate. You can’t get too ahead of yourself this time of year,” he said.

“But everyone is up and going, and we’re getting the boys on the park and it’s paying off.

“It’s a nice league down here in Katherine.

“There’s a lot of talent; plenty of skilful players.

“I can’t go past (teammates) Moulesy, Cam Arnold has had an awesome season and has kicked goals every game and Andrew Symes our captain.

“It was a good win (over the Bulldogs). They’re a pretty good side.”

Carlin said his experience with Geelong Falcons – where he played three TAC Cup games in 2014, including a four-goal effort against Eastern Ranges – helped him as a player and person.

“That was awesome going through that development program as an under-18 player,” he said.

“I played a couple of games and it’s a pretty good league down there.

“It was good for my development as a junior and I enjoyed it.”
