WITH 20 years of footy experience, Palmerston’s Natasha Medbury is still proving an inspiration to all who play around her.

The 40-year-old midfielder has been a key component in the fourth-placed Magpies set-up this year, scoring 11 goals while showing her football smarts to win the ball many times over.

“I’ve been really enjoying the young players this season, mentoring them and contributing has been a big part of my season,” Medbury told the NT News. “Our heart and our effort has been the big driver for our season and allowed us to run our game against fitter sides.

“We’ve not always been the fittest side but we play for each other and wear our hearts on our sleeves.”

The midfielder has been impressed with the rising talents at the club including Tabitha May, Janet Baird, Yasmen Roe and 16-year-old Iesha Ronberg.

The constant effort has helped Palmerston rise to fourth after beating a tough Nightcliff side on the weekend.

“After being involved for 20 years this is the most consistent season, any team can beat any team and we know that on any day we can beat any team,” Medbury said.

“I do hope to still put on the boots next season. My goal is to win another premiership before I hang them up but that’s as long as I’m contributing. If I’m no longer able to contribute that will be it.”

Palmerston coach Troy Lewer would love Medbury to stay in the side, saying she adds a lot to the team whenever she plays.

“She’s played really well this season, she’s put everything she’s got into it and I really rate her,” Lewer said.

“Her dedication, commitment to training and dedication to get the best out of herself sets her apart. Her work ethic and football smarts inspires everyone.”

Outside of playing Medbury enjoys commentating on the NTFL alongside Charlie King and Dominic McCormack.
