FRIENDS and teammates of NTFL star Warren Berto have gathered to remember and reflect on the life of the Moulden dad who tragically died in a car crash.
The group of about 50 people met at Palmerston Magpies Football Club on Tuesday night in memory of the 35-year-old father of three after who was killed when his car rolled on the Stuart Hwy near Pine Creek on Monday.
Club members sat down to share stories about Warren together over a few drinks and sing a rendition of the Magpies club song in his memory.
The Palmerston Magpies shared a touching video of the song on Facebook that said: “PMFC singing the club song for our beloved Warren Berto. We know you are here with us singing the song. Once a Magpie always a Magpie.”
Club president Russell Davey said his passing had been a shattering loss for their club. “We’ve lost a brother,” he said.
“Warren has made an impact on us and everyone here knows him in their own way. It’s amazing how much he’s rubbed off on us.”
AFL NT also released a statement on Wednesday that said they were deeply saddened by Mr Berto’s sudden passing.
“Warren was a valued member of the NT football community, joint 2007/08 Nichols Medalist, and inaugural member of the NT Thunder squad,” the statement said.
