AFL NORTHERN Territory will schedule a NT Womens All Stars match as a curtain raiser to NT Thunder's Round 2 NEAFL clash against Aspley at TIO Stadium in April.
The match on April 5 will be streamed LIVE on ThunderVISION (www.youtube.com/territorythunder) in a bid to promote women's football in the Territory.
AFLNT will send copies of the match to AFL recruiters to give NT players a chance to be drafted into the annual AFL women's clash between Melbourne and the Western Bulldogs, to be played as a curtain raiser at the MCG.
“This is going to give NT girls a chance to showcase the talent we know exists in the NT,” said Talent and Education Manager Tavis Perry.
“AFLNT and NT Thunder are going to the extra step to broadcast the game to ensure the maximum exposure possible for the NT female talent and give them the best possible opportunity to make it into one of the teams.”
Following on from the inaugural Youth Girls Kickstart Championship victory, Perry believes this gives a great opportunity for NT females to play AFL footy at the highest level and hopes the NT can be represented on the national stage in front of a crowd at the MCG.
“It gives the girls a rare chance to play representative footy and adds another link to our female player pathway which we are adding to all the time," he said.
"It enables further opportunity and growth for our female programs which have been one of our largest growth areas in recent years.”
AFLNT will accept nominations for players aged 18 and over for the All Stars clash.
