Kyle Emery kicks five goals for Nightcliff Tigers in big win over Tiwi Bombers in Round 15 NTFL

NIGHTCLIFF Tigers further strengthen their chances of a minor premiership with a resounding 19.26 (140) to 2.4 (16) win over the Tiwi Bombers on a slippery TIO Stadium.

NIGHTCLIFF Tigers further strengthen their chances of a minor premiership with a resounding 19.26 (140) to 2.4 (16) win over the Tiwi Bombers on a slippery TIO Stadium.

The Tigers came out with a punch, Bailey Henderson scored the opening goal within 30 seconds and that was quickly followed by another from Cam Ilett.

The Bombers showed spurts of form in the early phases, playing with heart to commemorate the milestone 200th games for their captain Paddy Heenan and Bradley Palipuaminni. Nicholas Hooker controlled the ball with John Tipiloura and Brayden Rioli keeping the ball moving early in the encounter, but with their interchange options depleted Tiwi couldn’t compete later on.

And the ball skills of proven veterans Brodie Filo, Nathan Brown and Daniel Bowles ensured any opportunity Tiwi did receive was quickly diminished. Despite their clear ascendancy, the Tigers would have been disappointed with their missed chances at goal.

But a bag of goals from key forward Kyle Emery was enough on its own to give the top side its win.

“It was pretty good to get the win, we’re just trying to focus on what’s to come and sticking to our basics and our structures,” Emery told the Sunday Territorian.

“There’s still a bit for us to work on but we’ll be ready come finals and we had some new guys come in who played their roles.

“(On the goals) it’s pretty good to get the delivery the way we do here.

“Everyone will get their opportunity and I was in the right places at the right times out there to get those scores.

“Now we’re just preparing as if every game is the last and each week we will just put our best foot forward.”
