SOUTHERN Districts midfielder Josiah Farrer said there was no secret recipe to the form that has proved invaluable to his side this season.
Farrer has been among the best on field every time he has pulled on the Crocs jersey this season, and he will be hoping to continue that form in the semi-final against Tiwi this Saturday.
He moved to Darwin from Katherine ahead of this season, something both he and coach Shannon Rusca agree has only improved his playing ability and cohesion with the rest of the side.
“There’s no secret recipe to my form this year except training hard and playing hard,” Farrer told the NT News.
“Being able to train with the team more often this season has only amped up my fitness and my skills.
“My brother Will does a lot to push me all the time. Apart from Rusca he’s the one that has been pushing me most, letting me know that there is no slacking off.”
Farrer has a number of tattoos all brimming with meaning.
But three in particular hold the most importance to him – one on his neck dedicated to his son, one on his upper arm dedicated to his uncle who he lost to cancer and one on his ribs, for his Kija tribe from Halls Creek.
Rusca has always been a massive supporter of his midfielder, saying he is one of the fittest and strongest in the Districts playing squad.
“He’s just continued his great work from the past few seasons and now that he’s training up here he’s only got better,” Rusca said.
“He’s just a natural athlete and inspiring in the way he attacks with the footy. He’s got plenty of flair in his runs and can take kicks from centre square which is something all the kids can look up to.”
Districts kept their finals hopes alive, pulling off a massive win over their qualifying final rivals Buffaloes.
“I was pretty impressed with that, it was the best team performance we’ve played all year,” Farrer said.
“That win will inspire us absolutely. We played our Croc brand of footy and everyone shared the workload, I couldn’t fault anybody.”
