Big Cat Harry Taylor ready to go in his first tilt as a Southern Districts Crocodile in the NTFL

Geelong superstar Harry Taylor set to debut for NTFL club Southern Districts against Wanderers in a big Round 5 game at Norbuilt Oval.

HARRY Taylor readily admits to a feeling of excitement at playing in Darwin’s NTFL competition.

And coming from a dual premiership player with Geelong and a two-time All-Australian, that is good news for his adopted club Southern Districts and the league.

“This has all happened through a mate and another mate, as things tend to work in the bush and I’m up here and pretty excited about it,’’ Taylor said before his first training run with the NTFL Crocodiles.

The 35-year-old is coming off a season with Northampton in Western Australia’s Geraldton league where he played up forward and booted more than 80 goals.

“I kicked a few (goals), but the important thing for me was putting my feet back in the sand where I grew up,’’ he said.

“I went back and played there and absolutely loved it, now this opportunity has come up and I can’t wait to get out there.

“I have to get back to Geelong at some point in whatever official capacity they want me for, but right now I’m up here learning some new names and new people.’’

Districts fans could see the 280-game player in front of goals or defending them against Wanderers on Saturday, depending where senior coach Matt Cannard wants to place him.

“I’m happy to play wherever he puts me and do whatever the team needs, I’m new to the team and ready to do what they want me to do,’’ he said.

And what about his old side, who fell short in another premiership hunt despite comfortably finishing in the top four again.

“Look, we’ve got a new CEO in place (Steven Hocking) and quite a number of new staff, so we have to get to work basically, something that’s not dissimilar to any other year,’’ Taylor said.

“Work hard, commit to a plan, try to execute it and see where we end up.

“In my time I’ve been so fortunate at the Cats to be competing for the finals and a flag every year and that doesn’t happen at every club.

“That’s something we’re very grateful for and we want to continue that.

“Ultimately we’d love to have won more premierships, but it’s a very, very tough caper where you have to keep getting yourself better to have a chance’’.
