WARATAHS star forward Abbey Holmes had two bites of the cherry before finally writing herself into the history books at Tracy Village Sports Club.
The 23-year-old became the first player from any established women's league in the country to kick 100 goals in the regular season as Tahs' smashed Tracy Village 17.15 (117) to 0.1 (1).
After kicking the opening goal of the game, Holmes booted her 100th midway through the first quarter.
But it was denied by the umpire who called the ball out moments before on the boundary line.
It mattered little as Holmes was soon awarded a free kick for a push in the back and coolly slotted her history-making goal from 15m out.
Holmes, who sprayed a shot wide when she was sitting on 99, said it was a relief to finally reach a century of goals.
"Before the game I was very nervous. It's obviously a big moment in women's football and I just wanted to get there," she said.
"I was more nervous kicking the first goal rather than lining up to kick the 100th.
"Missing a shot with everyone sitting on the fence waiting for it to happen - I am sorry for any stress I caused.
"I was very excited and didn't really know what to do when it happened. It was obviously something I have aspired to achieve.
"It is one of the best moments of my life.
"It means a lot to me and it's huge for my teammates as well and the Waratahs Football Club, my friends and family, and of course for all women in sport."
Holmes ended up booting five goals to take her tally to 103, but it could have been more if she did not miss a further six shots in an uncharacteristic display.
She hopes her milestone encourages other players in the country to follow suit.
"The support round it has been absolutely amazing. I've loved receiving all the messages of support from everyone," she said.
"I hope more people can take notice of women's footy now. There has been such a big build-up to this game in the media and everyone has been following the story."
