St Mary’s fought their way from behind to register the side’s second win of the NTFL Men’s Premier season.
A sizzling six-goal second quarter set up the win for the Saints, as they managed to kick clear of Southern Districts in the final term to register a 13.6 (84) to 10.12 (72) win.
Trailing by three points at the first break, Saints rose to the occasion in the second and on the back of a forward feast by Jackson Calder (2 goals) and Jack Landt (3 goals) they went to the long break leading by 11 points.
Calder had been well checked by dogged Croc defender Matthew Mazzini in the opening term but held some telling marks in the second while Landt was a standout with a highlight being a 55m goal from right half-forward after the halftime siren.
Jed Anderson was always a threat using his evasive skills and long left foot kinking to advantage while skipper Dean Staunton collected a mountain of possession following a slow start to the match.
A goal each in a torrid third term kept Districts in touch thanks to solid defence by Taj Stanly, Mitch Pemberton and Matthew Johnston while William Robinson, Darcy Chirgwin and Dylan Holt were watertight St Marys defenders.

Districts opened the last full of running and peppered the goals but five behinds, all from gettable shots, didn’t help their cause while the visitors secured the win by a maintaining a calm approach when scoring became an option.
One of the many highlights the game produced was the ruck battle between Croc heavyweight Matthew Dennis and high leaping St Marys big man Tex Korewha. It was Korewha who had the early ascendancy a booted a goal in each of the first two quarters but not to be outdone, Dennis worked his way back and the pair finished equally effective for their respective sides.
But it was the bullocking Landt that stole the show and while he spent time on the pine, when on the field his aggressive approach was too much for his immediate opponents.
“It’s good to get two wins in a row especially against the teams who played in last year’s grand final – we’ve put some good quarters together now so hopefully that starts us on the way.” Landt said.
“Our bookends with Darcy Chirgwin down back and Jacko (Calder) were awesome today and I don’t think either missed a mark which is also a good sign going forward.
“I’m pretty happy with my own form and while opposition sides usually put some work into stopping my brother, it sometimes leaves me without too much pressure.
“This is a good start for us especially since the last couple of seasons we have been under pressure towards the end but at two and one, it has been good.”

PREVIEW
A blockbuster is in store with St Mary’s chasing revenge against the side which knocked them out of last year’s title chase, Southern Districts, when they clash at Norbuilt Oval.
The NT News and KommunityTV will be there to stream every minute of the action from 4pm Saturday.
The Crocs beat the then reigning premiers 14.9 (93) to 10.10 (70) in last year’s prelim final to put an end to the Green Machine’s title defence.
While they’ve started the season slower than they finished last, the Crocs will be eager to stay undefeated at their home base.
Matt Dennis is still the premier ruck in the competition and Districts will be targeting that contest to themselves the best chance of taking the win.
Meanwhile, St Mary’s stunned reigning premiers Waratah in an epic comeback victory last week, and will be looking to carry that momentum forward.
Their skipper Dylan Landt has started the season in red hot form, while they will hope to eke out more goals with the likely return of their goal scorer Jackson Calder.
Full replays of the match will be posted here following the game’s finish.
