It had all the makings of a classic and while only South Australia walked away from the 17/U clash with Victoria with its undefeated record intact, the matchup between the two benchmark sides well and truly delivered.
The two outfits hadn’t put a foot wrong over the first three days, notching up four straight wins, and entered their Sunday afternoon clash with 5-0 records after earlier wins in the day.
The 25-23 result that eventually went South Australia’s way was full of momentum swings, with just three goals separating the two at both half and three-quarter time.
A fast finishing South Australian outfit then came home with a bang, scoring 8-3 in the final term to overrun Victoria and extend it’s run to 6-0.
With one final group stage game against Queensland on Monday before finals begin, it would take some drastic undoing for South Australia to not make Wednesday’s gold medal match.
Queensland’s 19/U side will also head into its final group stage game with the ultimate confidence after notching up two wins on Sunday to keep its own undefeated record intact.
After easily disposing of Northern Territory 66-8 in the early game, they faced fellow top-three side Victoria in what shaped as a major test of their championship credentials.
They passed that test with flying colours, winning 32-22, with Tia Crombie top scoring with 19 goals.
Tasmania’s 19/U side also celebrated on Sunday with its first win of the tournament, a two-goal victory over the Northern Territory.
