Dolphins signing John Paul Donevski gave Wayne Bennett a glimpse into the future as NSW Combined Catholic Colleges closed out day 6 of the ASSRL carnival with a win. WATCH HERE

Replay: ASSRL National Championships - NSW CCC v NSW CIS (18)

Dolphins-signed winger John Paul Donevski got up close and personal on what will be his new home ground in 2023 as the NSW Combined Catholic Colleges won by 30 points over NSW Combined Independent Schools.

Behind a gigantic forward pack, NSW Combined Catholic Colleges 18 years halve Joash Papalii and little men Liam Ison and Taj Brailey had a feast on the way to a 34-4 victory.

Donevski also got rolling on the left wing for CCC with tries either side of halftime which was timely given Dolphins’ officials would have been casting an over over their new wing signing from Patrician Brothers College.

Such was CCC’s dominaion, it took 31 minutes for CIS to enter deep in enemy territory and enjoy attacking ball, but CCC were able to repel their rivals to keep nil on the score sheet.

Indeed it took until five minutes from fulltime before CIS scored - via centre Patrick Spence.

CIS rallied in the second half to show great pride and reduce the damage, but CCC were far too strong.

The Combined Catholic Colleges could not have started better.

They hammered NSW Combined Independent Schools for the first quarter of the game, before scoring first through winger Wilson De Courcey.

But CCC had to go over the CIS defence - not through it - to score, with a delicate chip by fullback Liam Ison finding De Covey on the extreme right flank of the ingoal area.

CCC would have scored again after five-eight Papali had combined with light footed left edge forward Ethan Roberts to create a chance, but CIS fullback Siteni Taukamo was magnificent with a covering tackle which forced a double movement.

But soon after Papali ran onto the ball like he had been fired out of a gun and NSW CCC had the jump on their rivals leading 8-nil.

Ison then generated his team’s next try by keeping the ball alive after side-stepping No.6 Papli had breached the CIS defence, and CIS had score three tries in the opening 25 minutes.

Huge prop Jordan Miller then made it four tries by halftime, ploughing his way over for a 18-nil lead.

REPLAY: ACT 52 def Combined Affiliated States 12 (under 18s)

Replay: ASSRL National Championships - ACT v Combined Affiliated States (18)

The ACT 18 years blew out the cobwebs with an overwhelming performance against a gritty Combined Affiliated States.

ACT won 52-12, hurtling onto the path to victory after just a few minutes when left centre Regan Carr crossed for a double.

But the CAS outfit were gutsy, scoring three second half tries including a beauty by halfback River Richards (Manor Lakes College) who was his team’s man of the match.

CAS had players representing from Western Australia, Victoria and even the Northern Territory where Angus Murphy (Centralian Senior School, Alice Springs) hailed from.

But ACT were too classy and well drilled and had an obvious advantage when it came to combinations and match hardened experience.

ACT dummy half Jack Anderson (Erindale College) was his team’s man of the match.

REPLAY: First Nations Goannas v Northern Territory (15 Years Play-Off)

Replay: ASSRL National Championships - ASSRL Goannas v NT (15)

Winger Jack Talbott scored a 100m try as the FIrst Nations Goannas 15 years side set the wheels in motion for a gala day six of national championship schoolboy rugby league this morning.

Talbott (Albion Park SHS) retrieved an attacking kick from the Northern Territory and scorched his way from one end of the field to the other in a thrilling exhibition. The Goannas went on to win the game 56-nil.

Talbott’s try was part of an entertaining display of raw skill by the Goannas who blazed their way to five first half tries before going on with the job in the second half.

The Goannas led 28-nil at halftime, and having let a lead slip earlier in the tournament, there was no way the young Goannas were going to let this lead slip.

Talbott was also involved in another golden try scored by the Goannas Braith Sloane after Talbott had weaved his way through the middle of the field.

Sloane needed to still do plenty of work to cross in the corner, but it was very much Talbott’s try after his midfield run from deep inside his territory.

Shortly after Goannas fullback Ziggy Pidgeon swooped on a grubber kick to score, then edge back rower Cooper Adams went straight up the middle to cross beneath the crossbar.

Leeton High School’s Kyson Freer then put on a goose step then reached top gear during a brilliant individual run to the tryline to score.

Having set Sloane’s try up early, Talbott then deservedly scored himself.

The NT just could not hang on against rivals, clearly more battle hardened by more regular competition.

But it was still a great experience for the NT kids and they should return home with good memories of playing at the home ground of the NRL newcomers the Dolphins.

The respective men of the matches were Lamontae Banderson (Goannas) and Alfred Walker (NT).

REPLAY: Queensland White v ACT (15 Years Play-Off)

Replay: ASSRL National Championships - Queensland White v Victoria (15)

Who said lightning does not strike twice after Queensland scored a length of the field try - following a 100m effort in the previous match involving the Goannas.

On day six of competition, Queensland White 15 years centre Jake Carsburg ran 40m to finish off a 100m effort after lead-up play by Tom Parker (Forest Lake SHS) and man of the match Ellyjah Birve (Caloundra SHS).

Queensland white beat the ACT 60-nil.

Earlier in the day winger Jack Talbott (Goannas) scored a length of the field try against the Northern Territory.

Carsburg, who attends Grace Lutheran College at Rothwell which is just down the road from the ground, strode out in his blue headgear after young Parker had triggered the thrilling foot race deep inside his own half.

Birve, who was the link man in the try, also scored earlier in the half as Queensland proved too strong.

Then during the second half the boys bobbed up again to generate a cracking Queensland try scored by winger Cooper McInnerney after a bullet pass from Carsburg. The original break had been made by Birve.

The Queenslanders crossed early through Broncos-signed middle forwards Cohen Jackson (Mercy College) and Fa’apale Feaunati (Terrace), and later through winger Cooper McInnerney (Nudgee College).

The ACT man of the match was Byron Cahill.
