The power package of starting front rowers Aaliyah Temete and Cedez Lisone Siaea proved to much for the St James side to handle as they ran roughshod from the opening whistle.
Temete, a Queensland City representative, was particularly potent helping set up a brilliant try to winger Matilda Vial after breaking carting the ball more than 40 metres up field, breaking plenty of tackles and slipping a late offload to impressive halfback Torah Luadaka.
A destructive 10 minute period in the first half set up the monstrous win for the Gold Coast school, with Keebra Park running in five tries while St James didn’t touch the ball.
Ill-discipline in defence cost the NRL Schoolgirls Cup newcomers, with several penalties gifting Keebra Park opportunities to strike.
Vial finished with a ripping hat trick out wide, while Lisone Siaea scored a well-deserved try to close out the dominant win when she carried four defenders over the line with her.
PREVIEW
Brisbane Broncos-signed ace Okalani Compton shapes as the star who will get Keebra Park’s offence in order in the team’s second Queensland Schoolgirls Cup game of the season.
Keebra Park State High School will play St James College in round 3 of the Cup at home on Tuesday in a game that will be streamed live and exclusive on Kommunity TV.
The powerhouse league school beat Mabel Park 24-10 in round 2 following a bye, with state and national representative Compton scoring twice from dummy half.
Coach Daniel Schwass warned an even better Keebra Park outfit would be on show this week.
“The key take outs from our first game were that we panicked with the ball a bit,” Schwass said.
“We were pushing the pass one too many times or we would see some space and throw a pass that didn’t need to be thrown.
“The pleasing thing is our defence. We did a lot of work over the first two terms around our defensive structures and processes and how physical we want to be. That came to the forefront.”
Keebra Park will go into the round 3 clash unchanged, with gun fullback Skyla Samson expected to return from a shoulder injury next week.
Schwass said Compton and centre Ava Kinikinilau, who also scored a double last week, were pivotal to the side’s chances this week.
“Okalani is a state and national dummy half and her experience and talent comes to the forefront,” Schwass said.
“She has flexibility and can play nine or 13. She has a big powerful body.”
