MATCH REPORT

Keebra Park kicked off its 2025 NRL Schoolgirls Cup campaign in style with a statement win over contenders Mabel Park at BMD Kougari Oval on Wednesday morning

Keebra was a class above from start to finish and claimed a dominant 24-10 victory which will certainly put the rest of the competition on notice.

Spearheaded by an elite spine which featured superstar halfback Torah Luadaka and electric hooker Okalani Compton, there was little Mabel Park could do to stop the duo’s outstanding playmaking ability.

Luadaka continued her impressive form from the Harvey Norman under-17s season where she starred for Tweed Seagulls.

Compton immediately put Keebra Park on the front foot with a try in less than four minutes into the contest.

The hooker was in the right place to receive an offload and ran 30m past multiple Mabel park players to crossover for a try.

However, Mabel Park showed its class when towering prop Mamele Misa forced her way over for a try just moments later.

Despite the setback, Keebra remained unfazed as Compton soon scored her second try and from there it was all one-way traffic.

Luadaka had the ball on a string as she set up multiple tries and was a force to be reckoned with on either edge of the field as she helped her side pick up three more tries.

Keebra Park will look to keep its momentum flowing next week when it hosts St James College, while Mabel Park will face-off with Stretton at Langlands Park.

A digital subscription to KommunityTV, via this masthead, will prove the most exciting science textbook of 2025 when Broncos-contracted centres Joseph Tupuse and Dean Tauaa test out Newton’s Second Law on the Langer Trophy stage.

The blockbusting outside backs hold the key to defending their schools’ 1-0 record in Queensland’s toughest schoolboy rugby league competition.

The Langer Trophy showdown will be exclusively live streamed on KommunityTV as part of a massive triple header which includes the Walters Cup (Year 10) and Schoolgirls Cup games.

Keebra Park coach Peter Norman said he was expecting fireworks from a Mabel Park outfit hungry to avenge their 2024 finals knockout at the hands of the Blue Wall.

Tupuse scored two tries and Tauaa one in that meeting, setting the stage for a juicy rematch at Wynnum-Manly’s Kougari Oval.

“Mabel Park been really solid since entering the competition and we only just got them in the end of the quarter-final last year,” Norman said.

“They’re definitely a team we give a lot of respect to and they’ve got some great players in that side like their captain Dean Tauaa.

“He’s an extremely good player. He’s got a very strong carry and he’s a powerful athlete, so I think the less opportunity we give him in one-on-one, that’ll be the key to stopping him.

“I think that will be the best match-up of the game, against our left centre Joseph Tupuse.

“Joey, in his third year of Langer Trophy, probably has more experience at this level than Dean but Dean is coming off a strong Cyril Connell season as well.

“I think it’s going to be a really, really good match up and I’m looking forward to watching them both go at it.”

Tauaa was unguardable in Mabel Park’s stunning 26-0 shutout victory over reigning national champions Palm Beach Currumbin.

Tupuse took just two minutes to force his way onto the scoreboard in a 36-6 win over Daly Cherry-Evans’ alma mater Redcliffe SHS.

Put on your safety goggles and lab coats, students. Class is about to begin.

In the Schoolgirls Cup clash, which will open up the day’s action, Keebra Park will aim to open its campaign on the right foot against Mabel Park.

But it won’t be easy, with the Mabel Park girls running hot off a 28-14 win over Palm Beach Currumbin last week. will look to keep their dominant start to the season
