WA’s Marley Sam was in everything, with seven points, eight rebounds, nine assists and four steals, while Andreas Grubisa (16pts), Lachlan Burnett (14pts 6reb) and Alexander Edwards (13pts 7reb) poured in the points.
NSW Metro were led by Antonio Browne with 17 points and strong support from Bailey Hanson and Jamaal Osikoya, both with 13 points, and they simply had the answers after halftime when it upped the ante for the 82-68 result.
The tournament’s two leading scorers, Kale Matthews-Hampton and Ethan Macdermot, put on a clinic as South Australia Country lifted its record to 2-2 with a thrilling 95-91 victory.
Matthews-Hampton (35 points) and Macdermot (34 points) mercilessly tore apart New South Wales Country’s defensive zone in the come-from-behind effort, scoring a combined 69 points of their team’s tally of 95.
NSW Country captain Aki Langford didn’t miss out on the scoresheet with 29 points and eight rebounds.
While the heavyweights jockey for top spot atop the tables, the middle of each pool is tightening up.
ACT have struggled to find a win but that didn’t stop Ava Tawake from putting in a monster performance on day four.
She dragged in a whopping 20 rebounds while landing 23 points in a blistering performance, but it still wasn’t enough to get her side over the line as they went down to South Australia Country by 10 points.
Day four action started with the opening game of the Junior Wheelchair National Championships, and hosts Queensland pulled off a nail biter against South Australia to secure victory with the last play.
Little separated both teams throughout the entertaining clash, with a shot in the final seconds by South Australia rimming out to give the home side a 62-61 victory.
At the end of the day, NSW overcame WA Black Ducks 55-54 after overtime.
