Henley High put an early shock through the Basketball Australia Schools Championships, scoring a five-point upset over the highly-fancied Berwick College in their Under-20 Division 1 Women tournament opener.

Annie Caldow and Amelia Richardson combined for 23 points as the Henley High side defended their way to a 52-47 win on Monday, before Westfields Sports High shot their way to a 50-42 win against Hillcrest Christian College.

Mia Consolacion landed four of her side’s 10 big shots from beyond the arc to lead Westfields to the eight-point victory.

Marcellin College eased past St Dominic’s College 66-45 to finish 2-0 for the day after their earlier win against The Scots College, while Newington also finished Day 1 undefeated, knocking over Trinity Grammar 55-47 to take top spot in Pool B of the U20 Div 1 Men’s competition.

Hillcrest Christian College bested Templestowe College 70-45 in the late game.
