New South Wales two girls sides have kicked off the Under-18 National Championships in style on Sunday.

Playing in back-to-back games, the stars were most certainly on show for the sky blues.

While Ruby Perkins and Jessie-May Hall were certainly influential with the pair racking up 12 points, six rebounds and six assists each, it was Erica Finney coming off the bench who made the biggest impact in NSW Metro’s 93-45 win over SA Country.

Finney had a game-high 27 points, which included shooting four-from-seven from three-point land.

The win might have come at a cost for the sky blues though after Cassidy Thomson went down with what appeared to be a serious leg injury.

The young guard came alive when it mattered most for the sky blues, knocking down eight-unanswered points to close out the match and secure the nine-point win.

The sky blues highlighted a huge opening day of action on court three which featured five big games.

PREVIEW

Two of the likely title favourites back-to-back on Court 3 at the BA U18, Junior Wheelchair National Championships in Brisbane ... what more could you ask for!

Victoria Metro boys and NSW Metro girls hit Brisbane with plenty of expectation and their first-up assignments are certainly eagerly anticpated.

Led by Harrison Beauchamp, Henry Sewell and Ryder Cheesman, defending champions Victoria Metro have put together a formidable roster.

They begin their campaign against a NSW Country side who, with four players over 200cm, including Lithgow’s Eric Downes who stands at 212cm, could cause a few problems over the next week.

Meanwhile, with nine of the 10 players who won the U16 national title in 2022, NSW Metro girls have gone for familiarity as they look to avenge last year’s final loss to South Australia Metro.

After averaging over 17 points, five assists and five rebounds in her first showing at U18 level, Jessie-May Hall could really take her game to a new stratosphere this week.

They face South Australia Country first-up at 2pm.

The day tips off with a boys clash between ACT and Kale Matthews-Hampton’s SA Country at 10am.

Jade Crook and Kira Juffermans make their first appearances when NSW Country play Tasmania at 4pm before Northern Territory and Western Australia Metro boys close off procedings at 6pm.

Every match of the tournament will be exclusively live streamed on KommunityTV from April 7 to 14.
