PINT have maintained their winning ways against a Waratah unit that despite being without a victory this season were competitive at both ends of the field.
The Waratah women came into the match with a point to prove and made a good account of themselves early on against the reigning premiers.
But even without some of their usual stars such as Reni Hicks and Jasmyn Hewett the Queenants rolled on to a 5.3 (33) to 1.5 (11) victory, making it six from six so far this season.
Tahs were best served by Kierra Zerafa who got her hands on the ball at every opportunity and made an impact with it, even contributing the first scoring shot with a behind.
PINT had Kate Atkins further forward to kick off proceedings, and though she scored the first goal of the match she dominated they moved to her usual position in the backline later on.
The Queenants rolled on from there with Steph Lawrence, the league’s leading goal scorer, getting plenty of the action, while Zoe McWhinney had another strong outing for the outfit.
It was their ability to come out of the middle and strike forward that allowed the side to keep the scoreboard ticking through the middle half when Waratah were struggling for consistent go forward.
Waratah finally goaled midway through the final quarter when Molly Cooper nailed it through the sticks and it was well-earned reward for a long day of effort from her side.
It was a late period where they proved despite the heat and game against them that they were a side with potential of getting their first win of the year in the not too distant future.
Preview
Reigning women’s NTFL premiers PINT have once again been unstoppable in the 2024-25 season, but they now come up against a Waratah outfit with a point to prove.
And the NT News and KommunityTV will stream every moment of the clash from 12pm on Saturday.
The Greenants made it five wins from as many games in their Round 5 victory against Palmerston and don’t seem to be slowing down any time soon.
Reni Hicks and Zhoe Clarke have been among the competition’s best in recent weeks, while Steph Lawrence will be eager to extend her lead at the top of the goal kicking.
Meanwhile, Waratah sits at the bottom of the table and have so far been unable to claim a win despite the talent and history of the side.
They will be refreshed in the post bye meeting and will hope to use that and some of their big names to get some sort of foothold in this meeting.
A strong outing here, even if it doesn’t eventuate into a win, could be the turning point in the Tahs’ season.
