The Saints have made their finals intentions clear in the NTFL Women’s Premier League, leaving the Waratah women on a bleak search for a second win this season.

St Mary’s were near perfect - conceding only two behinds in the late stages of the final term - as they put Waratah to the sword to kick start the new year.

Saints kicked 18 unanswered goals as they brought up the century midway through the final term in a 18.16 (124) to 0.2 (2) shellacking.

Ciaralii Parnell led the way for the Green Machine, booting four majors in the final quarter alone, with the youngster making the most of a tired Waratah defence.

Shakaila Gardner-Dunn was also impressive through the midfield and forward 50 for the Saints, while Billie Byers was unstoppable at the hit-out.

Nicky Anderson, Amelia Martin and Gardiner-Dunn all added three goals a-piece as the Saints made the most of a wiltering Waratah with a 50-point final quarter.

The win has also delivered some much-needed momentum for the Saints women ahead of a top-three showdown against the Nightcliff Tigers next weekend.

The two sides are the big threats for undefeated reigning champions PINT.

The Saints women have enjoyed an impressive run since a jittery start to the season winning their past eight matches and are favourites to extend that run to nine.

There have been some real solid performers throughout the year including their usual standouts such as Billie Byers and Janet Baird.

Shakalia Gardiner-Dunn and Georgia Marsland sit tied second on the league’s goal scoring with 15 each, and have a chance to narrow the margin to the top spot held by Nightcliff’s Cassie McWilliam.

For St Mary’s a win here will extend their lead ahead of fourth placed Tiwi, and set them up nicely for the next few weeks of tough matches.

Meanwhile, Waratah have not enjoyed a strong season to date with just one win, but as a rebuilding side they’re pushing to make an impression each week.

Brittany Daly and Madeleine Jeans each make frequent appearances in the side’s best and as club leaders will both bring out the best they can from their squad.
