St Mary’s are still in the hunt for the NTFL top spot after knocking off Waratah on their home deck on the back of an impressive third quarter.
The matchup between these sides has been one of the defining rivalries in recent seasons, with Waratah knocking Saints out of the competition in last year’s finals series.
But that was merely a distant memory, as the Green Machine powered past their rivals for the second time this season with a 13.14 (92) to 7.7 (49).

Runaway best and fairest favourite Dylan Landt imposed his will on the contest, with the Saints skipper key to the side pulling clear in a dominant third quarter.
While Waratah had kept pace with their rivals over the first half, coming out of the break Saints were unstoppable kicking five goals to one as they opened a 31-point lead by the final break.
As he has been all season, Landt was at the heart of the St Mary’s resurgence, kicking three goals of his own while controlling the ball out of the midfield.
Once he managed to shrug off the Waratah two-man lock down on him, he was the instigator of Saints’ stranglehold on the footy.
And it was in that third quarter Collingwood VFL player Sam Glover shook off a nervy start to the match in front of goals, which kept the opposition in the contest, and got scoring momentum.
“This win is huge, we spoke pregame about this being a mini playoff for top spot, if we lost this it would be very hard to knock off Nightcliff,” Glover said.
“We smacked them on the ball, we just kept getting the ball in and the weight in numbers worked out in the end.
“We kept them missing them in the first half and kept them in the game, but in the second we got them in and once you get the lead the momentum takes over.
“Same for me, I was up and down, was low on confidence in the first half missing a few, but the boys got around me and told me to keep going and to stick with it, and it stated sticking.
“Being able to come for Saints has been great, everyone’s really welcoming and it’s been really easy to make new friends quick, I’m loving it so far.”
Earlier, Saints had the momentum and dominance in possession, but struggled to convert to the points as the likes of Rising Star nominee Timmy Kerinaiua and Jack O’Sullivan got plenty of the pill.
League leading goal scorer Jayden Magro made his presence felt for Waratah in a see-sawing opening quarter while Anthony Munkara also had several sublime touches.
However, it was in the midfield, where Landt, Nate Paredes and Beau Tedcastle made the influential clearances that Saints won the day.
Though the loss of two-time Dennis Dunn winner Jackson Calder was felt early in the piece, before Tex Korewha and Glover gelled as a partnership later in the piece.

PREVIEW
The NTFL’s two most recent premiership winners, Waratah and St Mary’s, face off on Friday night in what promises to be another exciting chapter to add to their recent rivalry.
And the NT News and KommunityTV will be there to stream every moment of the spectacle from 7.15pm.
The two sides have fought out plenty of thrillers in recent times, with St Mary’s winning on the buzzer in Round 17 last year, as well as the grand final the season before.
Waratah had plenty of their own back, thrashing Saints in the 2022-23 season opener, and knocking them out in the preliminary final as they charged to their first premiership in 23 years.
The Green Machine pulled off the first win this season, beating Tahs by three points all the way back in Round 2, but plenty has changed since.
St Mary’s sit second on the ladder and know a win here will all-but secure their place in the top three for the double chance - and though they are travelling, they have the side to do some real damage.
Skipper Dylan Landt has had a massive season while fellow midfielders Nate Paredes and Joel Garner have also been in great form of late. Tall forward Tex Korewha has made a great return since the break to add to their potency.
In the midfield, Waratah’s Scott Carlin, Lachlan Cassidy and Brodie Carroll are among the season’s best, while Jayden Magro will want to secure his lead on the goalkicking tally.
The reigning premiers currently sit fourth and will be wanting to push on with a win here to catch up and put themselves in the top three.
A full replay of the match will be posted here at the end of the game.
The NT News and AFL Northern Territory have come together in a partnership to live stream both the men’s and women’s Premier League games for this TIO NTFL season.
