NTFL 2023-24: Watch Wanderers vs St Mary’s Round 4 livestream

St Mary’s have further franked their credentials as a genuine contender in the NTFL with a comprehensive thumping of the struggling Wanderers. Watch the full match replay.

Replay: Wanderers v St Mary's — NTFL Round 4

A fit and fast St Mary’s have downed a spluttering Wanderers outfit in a very gusty and one-sided Round 4 match-up.

Coming off wins against both of last season’s grand finalists the Saint’s dispatched their traditional rivals 18.21 (129) to 8.3 (51), with reigning Dennis Dunn winner Jackson Calder kicking seven goals.

Captain Dylan Landt got proceedings underway darting out of midfield and slotting a maximum from 40m out to take the early lead, just three minutes into the encounter.

New signing Sam Glover also impressed kicking two goals of his own in the opening quarter, while spending time in the ruck as well in a very solid performance.

The Muk Muks had their chances with Henry White their first goal scorer after receiving a 50m free kick to help get his side in gear.

Austin Smith was busy around the park, while captain Mitchel Taylor was pivotal in defence, as he has been for so long, however even he couldn’t hold back the Saints’ onslaught.

And when forced to defend the Green Machine put on a defensive clinic, led by Darcy Chirgwin, restricting Wanderers’ scoring chances when they came.

Calder continued his goal scoring escapades late in the day, alongside brothers Dylan and Jack Landt, who slotted five between them.

However, for all their dominance, their overwhelming number of misses on goal prevented Saints from truly putting their opposition away.

Wanderers fought on, with big man Max Johnson and Matthew Motlop everywhere eager to earn some pride, but they got very little reward for effort.

“We thought they'd be tough, and we didn’t want to get complacent going into the game, but we definitely could have had a few more (points)  in the end,” Calder said.

“It would’ve been nice if we had kicked a bit straighter, you never want to have more behinds than goals, so we could’ve had a real big win, but we’ll take it.

“You don’t always get that many opportunities against some of the better teams, and they’ll make you pay.

“It was pretty gusty out there today and we’re still at the start of the season but they aren’t really excuses and it’s something we’ll work on.”

“It sounds cliche but I thought we were pretty good across the board and the boys at the back played a hell of a game.”

PREVIEW

Traditional rivals Wanderers and St Mary’s will face-off in what promises to be an exciting closer to Round 4.

The NT News and KommunityTV will be there to stream every moment from 6pm Sunday.

The Green Machine has proven itself the side to watch in 2023-24, beating both of last season’s grand finalists, Waratah and Southern Districts, in back to back outings.

Saints skipper, and arguably the league’s most in-form player, Dylan Landt, has been absolutely everywhere early in the year, and is pivotal wherever he’s placed.

And against Districts the side got even more dangerous with Jackson Calder, the league’s leading goal kicker two-years running, making a return from injury earlier than expected.

Meanwhile, Wanderers have twice suffered losses on the back of poor first halves, falling behind to both Buffaloes and Nightcliff to deny themselves a win.

However, despite their early deficits, this Muk Muks side has not been one to lie down, and they won the second half of both of those bouts.

Players like ball magnet Nathan Arbon and Marcus Totham will be crucial if Wanderers are to beat the odds in this one.

Full replays of the match will be posted here following the game’s finish.

The NT News and AFL Northern Territory have come together in a partnership to livestream both the Men’s and Women’s Premier League games for this TIO NTFL season.
