An electric Tiwi Bombers were the big beneficiaries after their match at Wurrumiyanga Oval against NTFL leaders St Mary’s was abandoned due to lightning.
The Bombers have been unbeaten on the island over the past two seasons, but that stat was put to the test against top-of-the-table Saints.
But it was Tiwi who dominated the fiery encounter on the offensive end and were ahead 8.11 (59) to 8.5 (53) when the match was called in the third quarter.
Saints started the better side, with skipper Dylan Landt busy in the midfield, and when a clever kick from Beau Tedcastle found an unmanned Nate Paredes dead in front, they looked set for a big score.
The Bombers had other ideas, with Karlson Kantilla dominating in the ruck while the likes of John Tipiloura and Stanley Tipiloura were busy.
Despite getting the better of the ball, they weren’t able to truly stamp down their advantage, peppering the posts instead of securing majors.
And as a result Saints stayed in the contest through Jackson Calder and another Paredes wonder goal.
Tiwi dug in though and their experienced heads, Brendan Kantilla and Sam Darley, struck true, while Kurt Dunn was great in the backline.
Kieran Parnell kept Kim Kantilla quiet early on, but the Bombers still found their way around the Saints defensive systems and getting the points ticking over.
The Green Machine struggled for scores in those periods and Tiwi went up, and crucially stayed up into the third quarter when play was halted due to nearby lightning.
And because the lightning was heard post halftime, the scores stood with Tiwi getting their third win of the season while Saints were resigned to suffering just their third defeat.

PREVIEW
The Tiwi Bombers will be hoping their home ground advantage pays off again when they host ladder leaders St Mary’s on the island.
And the NT News and KommunityTV will be there to stream every moment of the spectacle from 1.45pm Saturday.
St Mary’s suffered just their second defeat of the season last week against Nightcliff, and will be eager to bounce back in style ahead of the Christmas break.
Skipper Dylan Landt will be looking for a big showing, while the likes of Jackson Calder will be hoping to get a few more goals on the board.
Saints, however, know they can’t take this as a foregone conclusion playing against the Bombers on their home turf at Wurrumiyanga Oval.
Tiwi are always a tougher prospect playing on the island, having won both their matches there across the past two seasons.
The Bombers are a stronger outfit this year with Anthony McDonald-Tipungwuti bringing the AFL experience, while their brigade of young guns are getting better every week.
Full replays of the match will be posted here following the game’s finish.
The NT News and AFL Northern Territory have come together in a partnership to livestream both the Men’s and Women’s Premier League games for this TIO NTFL season.
