The Tiwi Bombers have displayed their usual flair and intensity against the Palmerston Magpies to grab their third straight win for the first time in four seasons.
The Bombers were targeting the match coming out of the Christmas break, but also one the still winless Palmerston were looking to with captain Phil Wills playing his 250th Premier League game.
But Tiwi continued to prove themselves a side on a roll with potentially higher ambitions, winning 16.14 (110) to 9.1 (55).
Not even a minute had gone by before danger man Kim Kantilla had made his mark, winning a free kick dead in front and nailing the opener.
The goal set the tone for Tiwi’s intensity from there, as they surged out of the midfield time after time with Karlson Kantilla doing his bit in the ruck, and kicking a goal of his own.
The side peppered the posts and, despite their early dominance didn’t take full advantage, getting points instead of majors.
Palmerston weren’t completely out of the match at that stage and did work their way back in with Matthew Gook putting in the work in the ruck battle.
A big kick from Levi Grigg and a major contribution from Alberto Bronghur brought the side back into contention.
The Magpies surged in the second quarter working hard for their captain, with Alexander Paech contributing well, while Waylon Davey and Lucas Edmonds providing moments of magic.
But for all their hard work they could never hold out the Bombers whose pace kept them on top throughout and exposed Palmerston’s missteps.
Sam Darley drove the standards across the park and was a standout whether in defence or through supplying the ball, while the Kantillas continued to show off their pace.
Stanley and John Tipiloura showed off their ability in the midfield feeding off Karlson Kantilla in the ruck as the side continued to roar ahead.
And Kim Kantilla continued to hit the scoreboard, alongside debutant Damien Dunn, as the side drew further and further away to secure their third straight win.
Coach Patrick Bowden was pleased with the performance which reclaimed some momentum following the mid-season break.
“We took a while to warm up, but went in the right way knowing we had to play well in the first half to keep them under control, and then we finished off really well,” he said.
“We felt we were doing better than the scoreboard showed, even when Palmerston came back, and we knew we just needed to keep playing the way we were playing without changing too much.
“We had some fly-ins for this match such as Rhett Jordon and Brock Orval who bring invaluable experience, but we can’t have them every week so it’s about playing well without them.
“We need to sustain momentum from here, we need to stick together as a group and keen on enjoying football.
“If we can do that I think we can catch up with some of the top teams, but the next few weeks will be really difficult so it’s about we prepare for those matches.”

PREVIEW
The Tiwi Bombers are targeting three wins in a row for the first time in four seasons, but for Palmerston this is a chance to get their first win of the season.
And the NT News and KommunityTV will be there to stream every minute of the match from 4.30pm Saturday.
The Tiwi Bombers have well and truly ditched the prospect of a fourth consecutive wooden spoon this season with three wins already to their name.
The Bombers enjoyed back-to-back successes at Wurrumiyanga Oval playing both structured and their typically exciting brand of footy.
They head in as favourites against a Palmerston side still chasing a win, and will use it as another opportunity to show off the young talent emerging from the island.
The Magpies haven’t had a lot to celebrate this season with wins lacking and opportunities to get a victory dwindling by the week.
But they are another side with young group of players coming through who will want to make their mark, while the experienced Ashton Hams is in sensational form despite the side’s results.
Full replays of the match will be posted here following the game’s finish.
The NT News and AFL Northern Territory have come together in a partnership to livestream both the Men’s and Women’s Premier League games for this TIO NTFL season.
