NTFL 2023-24: Watch St Mary’s vs Wanderers Round 14 live stream

It was another Dylan Landt masterclass as the skipper kicked the high flying Saints to a huge triple figure thrashing of Wanderers in blustery conditions. Watch the full match REPLAY.

St Mary’s executed an early blitz of free-flowing footy to race past Wanderers and climb to outright second on the NTFL ladder.

Saints find themselves in the top five log jam and know they need a top three finish, but against traditional rivals Wanderers, there was always going to be tricky moments.

Wearing special breast cancer awareness jerseys, the ‘Pink Army’ went to work from the opening whistle with an early blitz of goals laying the foundations of a dominant 21.13 (139) to 3.4 (22) in umpire Mark Noonan’s 350th Premier League match.

St Mary’s brought the intensity straight away with Jake Toa wining the tap downs and Nate Paredes getting the clearances, and from there the ball spent plenty of time in their forward line.

However, the swirling wind played havoc for those eying up the goal and it took a super break and kick on the run from skipper Dylan Landt to score the match opener, and then two more rather quickly after.

Saints’ leading goal kicker Jackson Calder offered himself consistently, and despite not getting a constant flow of majors was vital assisting efforts and crashing into packs.

There was a steady stream of Saints’ players who busied themselves in the early stages including fullback Darcy Chirgwin, Seth Harris and Charlton Offermans, and the side blazed away with their support.

For Wanderers part coach Aaron Motlop busied himself around the ground alongside Marcus Totham, while Mitchel Taylor and Braedon McLean weathered what they could of the constant Saints’ onslaught.

And they did come away with something for their efforts not leaving the quarter empty handed as Totham cleared down the throat of the big Ed Simpson, who didn’t miss.

The Muk Muks did better to restrict Saints run in the middle half of the match with Zac Pethybridge doing a job on Calder.

But it didn’t stop the Green Machine with Paredes, Harris and Landt everywhere coming out of the midfield, and the side pivoted finding Offermans as their main scorer instead.

Wanderers’ Jaxon East continued his fine form from the season whether disrupting, distributing or even scoring himself as a reward for plenty of effort.

Following his effort was one from Sam Davidson, and it was part of a third quarter where the side had found parity with their opposition.

Saints would have had a proper rev-up at three quarter time as a result of the slow quarter, and within seconds of the fourth getting under way Offermans had his fourth goal of the day.

The floodgates opened from there once again with Saints shaking off the shackles Wanderers had placed on them.

Landt orchestrated the action from there racking up plenty of possessions and lifting his own scoring tally to six to secure a percentage boosting victory.

“It’s a good win for us, we have a good group and everyone is just pushing towards finals and trying to get better along the way,” Offermans said.

“Our focus was tackle pressure and getting the basics right, we have a lot of good players so we just have to play to our strengths and enjoy what we’re doing, always play better when we’re enjoying ourselves.

“We lacked a bit of composure in the middle half, so our coaching group told us to lift if we want to prove we’re the best side in the comp, and we did that holding each other accountable to get the job done.”

The man from Queensland said he has learned a lot playing with Saints and is hoping to prove he’s one of the best players in the competition.

“I’ve learned a lot playing up here, I’m just trying to grow as a footballer and a person, and the club has been great for that,” he said.

“I’m getting a lot better, and don’t want to take any backwards steps, I really want to solidify myself as one of the best players in the competition, particularly with finals coming up.

“The boys look after me, and I like to think I look after them, and with the top sides so close now it’s about focusing on the little things and getting those one percenters right.”

Preview

The Green Machine will further enhance their NTFL top three finals cause if they pull off a big win against a Wanderers outfit which sits at the opposite end of the table.

And the NT News and KommunityTV will be there to stream every moment of the game from 7pm on Saturday.

St Mary’s have been among the trailblazers all season and come into this match up against one of their oldest rivals fresh off of the bye.

There’s no shortage of talent in the side this season with skipper and reigning Nichols Medal winner Dylan Landt leading the way, alongside fellow mids Nate Paredes and Joel Garner.

And up front they will be looking to service full forward Jackson Calder with plenty of ball as he aims to make it three years in a row as the league’s leading goal kicker.

The Muk Muks for their part have struggled for results, with only two wins to their name, both coming against Palmerston, and will be wanting to show some passion against Saints.

Captain Mitch Taylor and club stalwart Braedon McLean have stood out this season, while Nathan Arbon and Jaxon East have got plenty of use out of the ball, but the team hasn’t managed to finish off those efforts.

Perhaps this will be the occasion when they do.

Full replays of the match will be posted here following the end of the game.

The NT News and AFL Northern Territory have come together in a partnership to live stream both the men’s and women’s Premier League games for this TIO NTFL season.
