NTFL 2023-24: Watch St Mary’s vs PINT Round 15 live stream

St Mary’s revel in the rain to leave PINT peering nervously over their shoulder as a second defeat in a row suddenly leaves their finals spot vulnerable. Relive all the action.

Replay: St Mary's v PINT - NTFL Round 15

St Mary’s have climbed back to level pegging at the top of the table after coming through in a wet, low scoring match-up against top five rivals PINT.

Both sides came into the match knowing a win would help in pushing for a double chance come finals time, with PINT also needing to hold off the Buffaloes.

But a quick start from the Green Machine, as well as their known ability to play the wet conditions, saw them survive to win 6.9 (48) to 4.6 (30).

St Mary’s showed their prowess in the wet straight away surging forward and making the big tackles at the contest.

The usual duo of Nate Paredes and Dylan Landt were crucial early on and were able to get the ball into space.

Tex Korewha pounced on the loose footy to boot the opener and then it was over to the Greenants’ defence to absorb some pressure.

Brad Ryan and Steven Motlop both disrupted well while Lochie O’Brien had to make a massive slide save to prevent a Jack Landt effort.

The Green Machine’s defence was equally as proficient with Kieren Parnell and Darcy Chirgwin standing up to the efforts of Kyle Kirk and Liam Holt-Fitz.

The lockdown defending, particularly the sweeping backline of St Mary’s, was indicative of the low scoring encounter this match would turn into.

It wasn’t until Saints made back-to-back indiscretions in the second quarter and were pushed back 100m that PINT scored their first major from Kyle Kirk.

The mistake gave PINT something to aim towards, and with their tails up the likes of Motlop, Elliott Chalmers and Connor McDonald in the ruck found some real parity.

From there they were able to get the ball out to Harry McKimmie in the goal square, and with the scores still close it looked as if PINT could pull off a similar escape to their Waratah win.

However, Saints held their nerve knowing they would face a fight and the midfield team of Joel Garner, Landt and Paredes kept possessions alive in the contest.

The work of rucks Jake Toa and Oscar Conway was also notable alongside the efforts of the back six, who kept toiling away despite leaking the odd goal or two late.

But ultimately late in the piece it was St Mary’s who held on with Calder and Korewha kicking late sealers to ensure any late chances from PINT were cancelled out.

“PINT have been playing some super competitive footy against some really good teams, so we knew they would have a crack and it’s awesome to get the win against them,” Garner said.

“We just did the simple things right as in kicking the ball forward, particularly off the ground, it’s hard to get those pretty plays in these conditions so we just kicked forward as fast as we could.

“We took plenty of learnings from our match against Crocs in similar conditions, and PINT challenged us again, but our back six held up and our method worked so we were never really concerned.

“I love playing with Saints, I was so pumped when they got me up here knowing a few guys who used to play here like Xavier Clarke and Daniel and Maurice Rioli.

“It’s a great family club, I’ve tried to get up as much as possible, I’ll play a couple more before finals and then looking forward to March.

“We’re in good shape, this win puts in a good spot for the top three, that’s where we want to be and we have the cattle to really give the competition a shake.”

PREVIEW

Top five sides PINT and St Mary’s have another chance to push their case for a finals double chance, but which side will rise to the occasion?

And the NT News and KommunityTV will be there to stream every moment of the big game from 4.30pm on Saturday.

PINT look likely to play Premier League finals for the first time in their history, but will want to go in with momentum against the top sides, and this is a big opportunity for them.

The Greenants are great at staying in the contest, with the likes of Brad Ryan and former AFL player Steven Motlop performing well in the back line in recent weeks.

But it’s up forward where they will want to shine, hoping captain Matt Ryan will net a few majors to push them towards a potential win.

St Mary’s learned very quickly to never underestimate their across-the-road rivals, being the first Premier League side to fall to defeat to them last season.

But the Green Machine is firing on all cylinders at the moment, with skipper Dylan Landt at the centre of everything great about this side.

Midfielders Seth Harris and Nate Paredes have both enjoyed great seasons, too, while Jackson Calder knows he needs a few goals if he wants to top the scorers list.

A full replay of the match will be posted here at the end of the game.

The NT News and AFL Northern Territory have come together in a partnership to live stream both the men’s and women’s Premier League games for this TIO NTFL season.
