St Mary’s extended their winning run to six matches and became the first team this season to smash the 200-point barrier with a 33-goal blitz against Palmerston.
Aside from a round one blip against Nightcliff, the Green Machine has beaten everyone this season - and came into this game hunting for a percentage booster.
And against Palmerston, who have yet to win a game in the 2023-24 season, they achieved just what they were after winning 33.12 (210) to 5.5 (35), including 21 second half goals.
But defying expectations, it was actually Palmerston who burst out of the blocks, winning the clearance battle and scoring the first goal off the boot of Adam Parry within a minute.
The experience of Ashton Hams and returning captain Phil Wills injected some real pace and intensity into the midfield battle, and they had their second goal soon after from Josh Patullo.
But it didn’t quite go their way from there with Saints captain Dylan Landt, who had 56 possessions last week, working his way into the contest.
Jack Kluske and Seth Harris also got their hands on the ball, while consistent performers Darcy Chirgwin and Kieran Parnell started to lock down on the defensive end.
Tex Korewha and Jackson Calder got their chances in front of goal, while the likes of Beau Tedcastle and Jack Landt were explosive when they needed to be.
Saints didn’t let up as Rising Star nominee Chad Bertrand getting goals, as the big forwards continued their charge.
And while Palmerston showed plenty of effort in the opening half with goals also going the way of Waylon Davey, they fell away hard after halftime.
Saints blasted out of most restarts, with Jake Toa’s or Owen Conway’s dominance in the ruck allowing Dylan Landt to deliver clearance after clearance.
And his forwards lapped it up with Korewha and Calder getting bags each, while SANFL Port Adelaide player Joel Garner also joined in the pile on late in the piece.
“We’ve been playing some good footy, so we just wanted to make sure our method and ball movement was good, they kicked the first two but then we got rolling,” Korewha said.
“They came ready to play, and our starts haven’t been the best so we had to really switch on after those first five minutes where they struck out, but our starts are an area we need to improve on.
“The main focus was to stay to our game plan, when games blow out it’s easy to sit back and let it roll out, but we focused on making sure out structures stayed in place.
“In a game where you kick 200 and you spend all day as a key forward you’re bound to get a few goals, so I was more focused on making sure I played my role.
“It’s been really good playing up here. My partner lives up here and I moved up at the start at the season, it’s hot and that’s something to adjust to, but it’s been really good.”

PREVIEW
That St Mary’s have been near unstoppable since dropping the first game of the season is a scary thought for any side, let alone the young Palmerston outfit currently propping up the table.
The second v ninth battle at TIO Stadium on Saturday is about as imposing as it gets for the Magpies who have conceded more than 520 points in their last four games.
And the NT News and KommunityTV will be there to stream every minute from 4pm.
Of the top five teams on the table, St Mary’s have the second lowest percentage, so goals - and plenty of them - will be the order of the day against the Magpies.
And with dominant skipper Dylan Landt in such sparkling form, particularly last round where he pulled off a record-breaking 56 touches, St Mary’s will look to crash through the century mark for the fourth match in a row.
Landt will be a danger again in a match where the Green Machine will be keen to develop some of their younger players.
Meanwhile, the Magpies will have a different goal entirely - looking for an improved performance on recent weeks.
There have been moments from Palmerston across the season, but they are missing some of their top-end talent to injury and know they have a mountain to climb against Saints.
A full replay of the match will be posted here following the end of the game.
The NT News and AFL Northern Territory have come together in a partnership to livestream both the Men’s and Women’s Premier League games for this TIO NTFL season.
