St Mary’s bounced back from a slow start with a second quarter scoring surge to take the game away from Nightcliff and extend their NTFL Premier Women’s winning run to four matches.
The Tigers brought all the intensity early on with their forward pressure, but St Mary’s fought their way back into the contest to win the day 9.4 (58) to 5.2 (32).
Nightcliff used their tall forward duo of Mickayla Ward and Cassie McWilliam to put all the pressure on to the St Mary’s defence early on.
But they were made to work for their points as Saints captain Emily Forshaw and Nikita Long produced some telling defensive plays.
The Green Machine came to life in the second quarter, kicking six goals in a row on the back of some brilliant plays from Billie Byers, Hannah Fosbrooke and Jo Miller.
Grace Senior was the main benefactor of their efforts. kicking two goals in quick succession as her side consolidated their lead.
The Tigers had their moments with Sophie Berry playing an important role as a mid-forward, while Sophie Hatzismalis cut off more than one Saints effort.
But the sting went out of the match in the second half with the sides only kicking one goal each and unable to find much in the way of go forward.

The Tigers will be wanting to make a real impression this week after suffering a somewhat surprising defeat to Waratah last round.
