NTFL 2023-24: Watch Palmerston Magpies vs Wanderers Round 10 live stream

There was a fleeting moment in this match when Palmerston - who trailled by as much as five goals at one stage - were eyeing off a rare win. Then Wanderers kicked into gear. Re-live the action.

After relinquishing a solid early lead, Wanderers regrouped late in the game and scored an 18-point runaway win against a brave Palmerston.

The Muk Muk’s conjured up the perfect start to the match when Max Johnson won the tap to a running Austin Smith who bombed forward where Michael Mummery goaled with a mere 15-seconds on the clock.

Back with the Eagles after some time at Nightcliff, Mummery repeated the dose a few minutes later and while his teammates were otherwise wasteful in front, the visitors enjoyed a solid start to the contest.

The same tale of woe continued for Palmy in the second and while the ever-busy Myles Poholke goaled at the 17-minute mark, Wanderers added a further three goals five to lead by 28 points at the long break.

It was Johnson, Smith and acting captain Marcus Totham who provided the drive for Wanderers while Magpie defenders Ashton Hams, Nathan Dowsett and Brody Rudd were forced to work overtime to hold out their opponents.

While Wanderers pretty much ruled the first half, the momentum shifted in the third where Hams, Poholke, Gabriel Mulholland and Bailey Young took control and got the home side back within 11-points at the final break.

Two pieces of individual magic from Palmy small forward Waylon Davey that resulted in goals had the Magpies in front by four points mid-way through the final term.

However, Johnson, East and Shane Thorne steadied and with Daniel Clee booting two majors, together with a goal after the siren from Mummery, the Muk Muk’s regained the lead and finally ran out 11.14 (80) to 9.8 (62) victors.

Mummery was pleased with his first up performance and has no regrets about returning to his home-club.

“I came back here to play footy with my family at Wanderers – I’ve got a couple of brothers and cousins here so that’s why I made the move,” Mummery said.

“That goal early was a bit of a surprise, but the game plan was to get it in quickly and fortunately I was in the right place at the right time.

“I spent a bit of time on the bench through the middle of the game, but as my fitness improves, I will spend more time on the ground.”

PREVIEW

With just a solitary success between them this season, there’s one unwanted tag looking likely for either Palmerston and Wanderers.

That’s why victory in the clash of the bottom two on Saturday night is so crucial if they want to avoid the dreaded wooden spoon.

And the NT News and KommunityTV will be there to stream the entire match up from 6.30pm.

This will be one of Palmerston’s best chances to get a win this season, especially at their home ground.

The Magpies have shown better form at Cazalys Arena where they played their best game against Darwin Buffaloes, and will need a similar showing if they are any chance of getting the win.

They will be looking to their leaders such as Ashton Hams, who had a 46 touch game last round against PINT, and captain Phil Wills to inspire a result here.

Wanderers are also hunting the win, having last won against the Magpies all the way back in Round 1 and struggled since.

Jaxon East, Nathan Arbon and Matthew Young have been the standouts in and around the midfield, while Mitchel Taylor has been his reliable self at full back.

But they need a result to inspire some confidence as the competition heads into the back half of the season.

A full replay of the match will be posted here fat the end of the game.

The NT News and AFL Northern Territory have come together in a partnership to live stream both the men’s and women’s Premier League games for this TIO NTFL season.
