The Nightcliff Tigers have pounced up the NTFL ladder after delivering a percentage-boosting victory over the luckless Wanderers.
The Tigers rose to occasion following the mid-season break posting an impressive 18.5 (127) to 4.4 (28) score line in torrential conditions.
In torrential rain for all four quarters and under the lightning-lit sky, punch-ups, high-tackles, debatable calls and difficult conditions set the scene for an enthralling Round 12 clash.
Cam Illet wasted no time at all in posting the first points of the night, scoring a goal in the opening minutes of play to set the tone for the match.
Nightcliff didn’t stop their assault, smothering any and all attempts from Wanderers’ skipper Mitchel Taylor, and his back line at clearing their own end.
Taking a substantial 46-point lead into halftime, Wanderers came back with a vengeance in the second half, determined to make Nightcliff wake up battered and bruised in the morning.
Marcus Totham, Daniel Fuller and Nathan Arbon did their best for Wanderers but standouts on the night were from the home side, namely Brett Kenneddy with a five-goal effort.
Brodie Filo was also at his usual best while Cooper Dahms was antagonising on and off the ball.
“We’ll take it,” Tigers’ captain Ryan Nyhuis said on the victory.
“This time of year you know it’s always going to be wet and slippery and a bit chaotic.
“Honestly, I thought that we could’ve controlled the tempo a bit better when it was getting heated, so we could’ve taken some of the spice out of the game, and that would’ve let us go back to our style of play.
“But in the end we came away with the points and that’s what matters.
Nyhuis was happy his side came away relatively unscathed, and boosted their position up the ladder.
“I would’ve liked us to play more in control, that boring style where we go down the line and keep possession on our own terms,” he said.
“But we came away without any major injuries and despite the scoreline, I believe we should’ve won by a bit more if we kicked straight in the opening half of the game.”

Preview
The Nightcliff Tigers are on the hunt for a percentage boosting victory against Wanderers as they look to hold down a double chance position.
The NT News and KommunityTV will be there to stream every moment of the clash from 7pm Saturday.
Nightcliff are well and truly in the hunt for the minor premiership sitting among the favourites near the top of the table.
The Tigers have winners across the field, whether it’s Brodie Filo pulling the strings in the midfield or their x-factor players, Adrian Scott or Tristan Singh Lippo, up forward.
But it’s in defence where they’ve really shined this season with Ryan Nyhuis, Mitchell Norton and Lewis Rinaldi among others all limiting their opposition’s moves forward.
Meanwhile, Wanderers sit on the opposite end of the table and need to pull off something special to get the result in this one.
Jaxon East has been the Muk Muks best this season and is a proper ball magnet, while Nathan Arbon and Matthew Young can each make something happen too.
Full replays of the match will be posted here following the game’s finish.
The NT News and AFL Northern Territory have come together in a partnership to livestream both the Men’s and Women’s Premier League games for this TIO NTFL season.
